As bad as its been in MA there are a few spots that drain really well. I think its because they're mostly rock (Harold Parker).

Dirt was dry today at my local (Cadys Falls Nursery) but the roots/rocks/wood were still extremely slippery with nearly 100 percent humidity. The bridge before the little drop just felt like it would let go so easily. It so weird to me that the dirt could honestly still use more moisture, as many turns go turned to kitty litter back in may and it still has not really recovered.
I’m here to rub in the fact that Bentonville, AR was dry and delightful today. Eat it suckahs!! (Meanwhile, my basement is probably flooding, so F me).

Got out during the clear days at Kingdom Trails. Hot as hell and mostly shepherding my 6 and 8 year old on easier trails, but finally got to ride Black Bear and I can say that trail is bonkers good. 10 minutes or so of pure bliss.
Glad I got out for a long ride Saturday before the rain closures though I did get caught 4 miles from home Sunday in a thunderstorm, good times..

How are all the VT mags doing? My family says it’s wild back home. Hopefully everyone is safe.
I know Foam is doing a fundraiser to help those impacted. Are there any cycling clubs doing something similar? I’d love to support if possible
I live on a hill. my house+farm is fine. We actually had more issues with a micro burst that flooded our basement and neighbors house last week with 2.2 inches that feel in 25 minutes. but the big rainfall on the 10th did nothing here.
now Johnson Vermont basically the whole downtown is flooded.
As for MTBing I have 4 locals CFN(10 minute) Cricket Hill(10 minutes) Hardwick(30minutes) Cady Hill(25 minutes) , hardwick is currently about an hour away on class 4 roads because route 15 is washed out. First world problems though.
it was good to be a hill billy this last week though.
VT 100 was cancelled. Sounds like things are far from back to normal...

I’m spending next week on Cape Cod in Eastham, MA, and planning on doing lots of early morning rides. Does anyone have experience/feedback regarding the unpaved roads on the east side of Eastham/Welfleet/Truro? I’m trying to figure out whether 32mm road tires would be adequate.
We'll be riding dh at Killington Sunday if anyone's interested ask for change.
Did anyone else ride dh here?

Anyone riding the ESC enduro at Sugarbush this weekend?
I have not done those specific roads but unpaved roads out there are typically sandy.
Beach riding on fat bikes mostly closed for piping plover.
Road riding is good, especially early morning.
Good mountain biking on Cape but not really down in eastham.
Don't miss the beachcomber

Any mags familiar with the cross New Hampshire trail? I hadn’t heard of it until today. 83 miles with approx 3k of climbing that starts in either Bethel, ME or Woodsville, NH. A mix of gravel (mostly) and some road linking it together. Curious if anyone has ridden it. Also could be a fun meet-up event
That sounds interesting. Mostly old rail trails, like the cross vt trail?

Yeah, thanks for the heads-up. I’m thinking about going from Woodsville to Bethel in one day, staying overnight in Bethel and riding back to Woodsville the next day.

I’ve been ticking off a few of the VT bikepacker routes this summer. I highly recommend the gravel growler and Mad taco challenge.

Wait - are we posting gravel and bikepacking rides here now?

I thought there was another thread for that. [emoji6]
Too wet to be mtbing. If we can’t post bikepacking and gravel we may as well just argue in the poli-ass forum.

Mozzies were brutal tonight on the muddy farm “roads” of Colchester. Once I got on smooth trails I could out run them.

‘Member when mountain bike trail networks were open more than 1/2 of the days in the summer? ‘member?
‘Member when summer had less than a foot of rain per month?
Guess we are paying for the past two(?) dusty dry summers in a big way.

Things here were looking up until a torrential downpour last night (albeit brief) and a swift forecast change for the day.
I was able to sneak in a ride in Cape Elizabeth after work Thursday. Surprisingly, 90% of the stuff we rode was in great shape. The other 10% (mostly in Winnick) was a mud hole.
I’m shocked how much new stuff I’m finding in there, none of which is on Trailforks. My riding buddy uses the heat map on strava to link our rides together.
Skeeters are bad in the woods, slow climbs are like a blood drive.
biggins and I got shut out today. [emoji22]
I don’t think 24 hours without rain is a reasonable window to keep trails closed anymore. It feels like VT hasn’t had a calendar day in the last 3 months that was without precip. We might just have to pave them all.
Was at Green Woodlands yesterday, their only rule about wet trails is don’t ride in the rain. So we started around 8:30a to try and beat the next scheduled bit of Summer ‘23 weather which didn’t really work. About 25 min into the ride it started raining, then pouring.
Any of the less steep trails were fine-ish, where things got ugly is anything with a pitch to it as you can imagine had a stream running down it. If you’ve been to GW you know they have built a lot of whoopy, bermy stuff that isn’t super steep but steep enough to be wicked fun. We actually turned back on Norris when we hit the first of those sections and retreated to flatter terrain where I wouldn’t feel like we were contributing to the damage.
This season has not been kind to that place, what was a network of machine built smoothness is now showing ruts and more rocks than I’d seen before. Really feel bad for trail builders who are facing major projects to resurface.

Good to hear about the new stuff! Moving back from Boston next weekend and gonna be helping pick up some of the trail work slack at Blackstrap. Hoping we can work into some permission to overhaul all the main downhills from Blackstrap summit, and like everywhere else after all this rain there's so much work that needs doing.
If anyone wants to do a the Peacham Fall Fondo gravel grinder on 9/30, PM me because I can't use my entry.
It's sold out but I can transfer it for the entry fee ($80) through BikeReg.
50 miles, 6k of climbing, spectacular fall scenery and homemade apple pies at the halfway point. The ride is supported and entry includes food and beer afterwards. I did it last year and had an absolute blast.

Anyone riding the Overland this weekend?
Feel free to shoot a message if you ever want help. I’ve always wanted to get involved but I’m not on any socials (so I miss the “all hands” stuff).
Coincidentally rode blackstrap last night and, whew…she’s rough. We stayed on the right hand side (save Happy Cats) but there is still a noticeable amount of damage. If the weather were going to cooperate, I would have headed that way this weekend to check it out. Reports are the river trail is a mess, as is the descent from Raven.
The work done on Happy Cats is noticeable and really helped it ride better from north to south.

There are so many spaces on the EC that could have incredible mtn biking, but it doesn't because the community doesn't exist. Here On the flat seacoast we have the best trails available with the given terrain. 40 minutes plus has incredibly fun terrain and shit for trails. Assbackwards
Indeed. One thing about Falmouth/Blackstrap is that there's just enough vert to make it super fun. Bustamove is a riot and it's maybe 150 feet of vert and 1/4 mile long. Other side of the road has closer to 400 feet but needs a bunch of work to make what's available really sing.
I did ride all the new Newfields stuff this past weekend while visiting my parents. Still a lot of twisty stuff but also some really fun faster ones. Good work team!
Yeah, I was part of four new builds in Newfields...the jump lines. The tight twisty techy slower line was a local rock mason build. That land is on the bubble...hoping the community can save it. It's going to take an effort from the town and the mtn bike community. The owner is a great guy, but he has siblings, so the $$$ have to be there. Hence the mad dash to build new trails as that option may disappear...or worse the whole thing disappears.
Here's another brand new build that's not finished yet in Newfields.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7c4eb9e8af.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d5684bd1b1.jpg
Looking like I’ll be in Stowe Labor Day weekend. Bringing the ripmo but also considering demoing a gravel bike from ranch camp. Anyone in the area up for playing tour guide on a gravel route?
Most likely will be doing Cady hill Saturday and either Adams Camp, Perry Hill, or Little River Sunday as well.
