Yeah 99% of us would be crumpled to pieces on this. Luckily the dude is fucking built.
Gee's not too bad and mine are in a different league.
Brendog's gap... looks to not have quite a 1% margin of error sheesh.
Any links to watch without espn+ account?
I think it should be on Redbull TV as well...

What is the prize for this event? These guys are risking never being able to walk again for $100k or more? I guess the same could be said for FWT or even downhill racing, but that course is insane.
Gee’s crash looked gnarly. Can the bike even handle that much force? That drop was huge, he looked like it couldn’t have been done much cleaner and the bike just bucked him off.
And the other dude with the backflip over the 100ft? Gap with like a 500ft drop in the middle!? It made my palms sweat.
With all that said, it’s great entertainment but they may have to dial the course back a hair…
Gee did not land it clean at all. You can see when he is in the air the back of the bike drifts right and affected his landing and he said as much on his update that the wind caught him in the air.
And prize money or not, pretty sure all these dudes love being there. Saw a video with Cam (Edit: Tyler) McCaul, who is in a cast on his ankle so couldn't do it this year and he was already talking about being excited to compete next year.
Yeah, if you follow any of these guys, they're doing similarly gnarly shit on their free time. As are plenty of other guys who didn't get an invite to Rampage. There are a small handful of guys that seem like they're pushing themselves beyond their limits in search of fame and fortune / doing it for the gram. But most of these guys are just hooked on the dopamine hit that you get from sending big shit, and they keep chasing that high regardless of whether the cameras are running or not.
That aside, is Cam McCaul actually looking to come back to competition? I thought he'd hung it up years ago and was just doing commentary.
Not sure about the prize money, but I saw a video on YT where a guy (part of Brendog’s group maybe) said they get $10k to cover travel and all expenses for the full crew. That doesn’t go very far for 4-5 guys traveling from across the world; you’d think Redbull would just cover their expenses outright.
Also, pretty sure it’s not on Redbull TV in the US.
Ah, that makes sense. Always liked Tyler's rampage lines - a bit more raw and burly and less slopestyley. It'd be cool to see him back next year.
The wind always gets bad for the second runs, which massively increases the risk factor. On years where the wind isn't bad, it seems like most guys take a second run. Also, a lot of the guys are sessioning their features in practice; it's not like the first run of the event is the first time they've hit their features.
That was Ollie, and my bad if I didn't read the fine print on the redbull tv thing.
That's just one check that Brendog gets for the event, but still, even after whatever contract incentives and budgets he gets for the event, not many of these guys make bank, and those that do deserve their payday.
As for BFD's post..
Some of those lines the competitors probably think of the same way racers do their finals run... it all crescendos up to that.. to have to do it twice (like semis this year in world cup) is just not how they are wired....
Plus, wind is almost always an issue and gets worse for the competitors later in the day typically.
eta, plenty are willing to session, and would probably prefer a 3 run option or something...
Saw some pics of Gee already back wandering around the venue (in a collar and some sort of brace for his back). Dude's a beast.
Wild. I don’t think I’d want to be in a car for how long it takes to get from either level 1 trauma center back to the venue after that short of time but Gee is not of this earth

Well that's annoying. ESPN + only for US, no RedbullTV. Watching the highlights then, not bothering with VPN etc
It's live on RedBull TV site, however I am geo restricted...from California? Weird.
Oddly even with a VPN I can't stream right now.
Edit: Nevermind, set free VPN to "France" and I'm watching now on Redbull.
Reminder: ESPN+ is included in Disney+ if you've got that.
"That's AIDS bro!"
"Holy shit cunt!"
lol classic mic'd up captures.
Who's getting robbed?
Brendog

Brendog mildly robbed. Storch overscored. Bienve got robbed worse - that front flip was rowdy.
Zink is a beast. Old man's still got it.
Emil impressed me. He got scored about where he should have, but he did better than I expected.
Bummed that Kaudela and Godziek had bad crashes, especially since they were both on great runs. Godziek's was a potential winner. Kaudela seemed to be fine after his crash. Haven't seen anything about Godziek.
Jaxson Riddle and Sorge were both phoning it in. Kinda lame.
Overall, as always, that was a great comp. Super impressive riding. Keeping the bar high.
The fact that guys like Steenbergen, Storch, or Fairclough don't do a second run, and concede the win to Zink, shows you how gnarly it is, and how close to the edge of disaster they are to even get 1 clean run in safely.
Both good takes. I didn't get through all of it, but almost all of it.
I think Brendog's sui over a much more technical canyon gap and all the little stoppie steeze checked the type of run I want to see at Rampage. Cam's lines I think had been underscored on gnar a few times and it's awesome to see him get his.
Emil had that super tech drop in at one point that was more raw than I think of his slopestyle.... I dug it.
That had to be the best rampage ever. My podium looked different but there was a lot of great runs and that wouldve been super difficult judging. Too bad we didnt get to see the madness Godziek was about to drop

According to wikipedia, the prize fund was $200,000 in 2016 (the last year listed on the site). So, not sure what it is now?
Video is up in the US: https://www.redbull.com/us-en/live/r...l-rampage-2023
That was a great Rampage in terms of riding/coverage/weather. I think the results are weird, but besides that it was an excellent event.
I think Bienve got super-robbed. His runs had plenty of big tricks and they were fast and powerful.
That first front flip was insane - and he threed and back flipped going into it and threw more big tricks after.
Zink had that weird little nac-flip and his big flip and that was kinda it.

Zink's run was gnarly, top to bottom. Everyone made a big deal about Brendog's gnarly run in to his canyon gap, and it was rowdy to be sure. But Zink's line off the top was every bit as techy. Super raw and exposed, leading into a big drop.
Bienve's line didn't really start until half way down the hill. The first half of his run is why he didn't score way higher.
Not to take anything away from any of them. It was all awesome.
Truth. Just rewatched Zink’s full run. Was dope.

That may have been the best Rampage ever. Perfect conditions, Zink absolutely throwing down, groundbreaking new lines and tricks, comeback stories for Tom Van Steenbergen and Straight, just awesome.
I look at two things:
1) did the rider op out of taking the easy/safe way off the mountain? ie Brendog, Zink, TVS.
2) did the rider do things nobody else can/would do? ie Brendog, Zink, Bienve.
If you’re gonna take the easy 3-12’ wide smooth bench cut path down the upper 1/3, you might as well be at Dark Fest. Fest is badass, but it’s not about navigating the gmarliest mtb terrain in the world.
I’m not saying Brendog should have won, but he was way better than fourth. And as soon as he stops doing Rampage we’ll probably be seeing backhoes up there and it’ll look more like a crankworks slopestyle event.

I think I would have put Brendog in 3rd over Carson. Carson’s top 1/3 had a lot more opportunities to check speed, etc. Carson had more tricks etc but the double exposure of Brendog is 3 points in the positive for me

Bienve was scored oddly low, couldn't figure it out.
Ya i figure Bienve was 1st and 2nd with Brendan 3rd

Watching the judges literally celebrate when they saw Zink stick his lander was shitty. Made it feel like they were pulling hard for their boy and as long as he had a clean run they had already justified the points.
Also, hats off to Rogatkin for solid commentary. That guy is a natural.
