Well damn, strong work! Did they start at upper Rainey?

We started at Tie Canyon on the highway. Worked our way over to Rainey Creek, hellacious hike a bike up sheep driveway, down hunts corral, and back to Rainey Creek. Was monster. I didn’t do as well as I hoped, but seeing as I was gonna scratch the night before, I’m happy.
Way to push it on a real burly day! Gonna have to retire the helmet HMS sold me this spring after a big ragdoll crash on stage 2, but otherwise was a real delight of an event.
I would HIGHLY recommend that anyone local who's thinking about riding the Cariboo Jack come out to one or more of the trail days. There were some Jackson folks (not rideit) complaining about the ruggedness of the terrain and the amount of hike-a-bike. It doesn't need to be a surprise, come help clear trail, you'll get a taste of the character of the area, and can plan your equipment and fitness choices accordingly. Or you can just suck it up and power through like RideIt!
LOL, I have been back there four or five times over the decades, I had a ‘decent’ idea of what to expect. But the death March that is the West To East Sheep Driveway was a…revelation. I had ridden it East to West before, but that was a whole different animal. Overall I loved the whole thing except for bad leg cramping. And the man-eating mud hole. But the event organization was stellar. I was very impressed with how it all went down. And los tacos están buenaso!
I think I got the ‘oldest rider’ award, too!
Dry Dirt at last[emoji1690][emoji1690]. Trails over at 7N are in primo shape right now, squeezed in a few laps on the way back from IF today. Perfectly dry and not loose yet…..looked like they’ve been busy working on the Jump lines/pump track/skills area too…https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...acfdb17d34.jpg
I’ve probably driven by 7N 50 times and never ridden there. Might have to give it a try this weekend if the weather holds.
Would also think Sidewinder should be dry after this week, opened 5/1.

Walked up Channel lock today, dry for a half mile, intermittent mud snow after that and then pretty solid mud snow after a mile or so. A week of good weather and it might be gtg.
Only things remotely dry over here are tidbits of singletrack next to the bike path, out towards cache, and such. And the epic 1/3 of a mile next to the elk refuge road!
5/12, Cache Area:
If you guys find yourselves over here, Nelson- Putt Putt-Sidewalk-Wiggle-Nelson is *99% * clear (tiny little patches), and you can ad a loop or two on Nelson Butte. Two loops of that is a proper (shortish) ride. But fun!
Ferrin's is good from cache creek trailhead to the log. PuttPutt good to Serengeti and will be clean above that in a couple days I'd bet. Season is picking up!
I did hear that Ladyslipper and Hillbender in Southern Valley have a few snowdrifts but are reasonable to ride.

Any word of the Aspen Trail yet? Tempted to rally down earlier today but then weather rolled in during my 1 free hour....
Rode Ferrins to the meadow this evening, it’s 98% rideable.

I’d think the drifts that were blocking the trail completely a week ago are the ones that now have a thin strip that’s rideable on the edge. Bet it’s clear in the next 5 days or so.

Things got muddy coming out of the trees at the top, so that’s where the ship turned around

MillCreek is NOT ready to go. Per mtbthetetons last trail status report of ‘Limited’ vs Open or Closed is pretty accurate. On/off the bike a bit and finally bailed 2/3 way to the overlook. The furkid was pretty stoked tho[emoji869][emoji869]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b293166e29.jpg
Thinking of going to Lander to camp and ride this weekend, and could use some beta. Are there boondocking sites for a 21’ trailer central to the riding?
Can you shuttle, or is it all pedal? (Kiddo wants to ride again after taking a few years off, shuttling would be the better gateway drug)
Any other tips?
Someone over there runs shuttles on Brewers, but that won't be open yet. Johnny Behind the Rocks and the Bus will be gtg, but no shuttles. There's some dispersed camping in Sinks that I know of, and campgrounds as well. Lots of other public land opportunities though so I'm sure you could find some good camping.
My saved link to current trail conditions for MBT is taking me to July 2022. And I can’t seem to find anything updated on the web page. Am I just not looking ion the right spot or is nothing really open yet?

Had the same issue for MBT but friends of pathways seem to have shouldered the load for trail updates on WY side.

The master list is on the MBT social media but not the website.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...66766aae60.jpg

Forecast looks to be a bit of a washout. Rideit's Lander trip is looking like the move right now.
Wish I had some private property around here to do some slop ridin
Bumping this back up as trails open up...
On the TV side- all of Southern Valley is good to go. Horseshoe decent but some greasy spots in the back 40 of Sodbuster and Cody's. Mill Creek to the Overlook still had some snow patches to walk, but no killer mud. Aspen Trail is my next investigation.
I also saw that Palisades Creek is good to the upper lake.

God damn, thank you mother nature for the water but please schedule a time that's not right when work gets out. TY...
Going to have to get on that 6am ride train...
Sterling Justice in Pocatello is in prime shape:Attachment 460581Attachment 460583Attachment 460585Attachment 460586
Wow, that looks great. First time I rode it last year there were a few sketchy hike a bikes across some decently large drifts. Such a fun traverse between the two areas.
Back to back rides this week thanks to my plea being answered.
Thursday rode SorS to the summit road to Josie’s. Way more stopping for hikers than the first time but at least the dirt was still in decent shape. Was stoked on cleaning the entire portion of SorS from the west. That section with the 3 cruxes always gives me some trouble.
Today did a repeat to the top of the king and descended Wilson Canyon. Rode it once 2 years ago and literally had no recollection of the supposed rocky section. Upon refresher, high jank factor for sure and glad I don’t have carbon cranks. The spot where West Game branches off is completely fucked by what I assume were horse tracks… Post holed to shit. It was nice to ride it before everything grows in, but idk how I feel about that trail. It surely needs more traffic to knock down the vole mounds in the burn section. It feels like it should be flowy but it’s surprisingly pedally for a mostly downhill trail leading up to the actual canyon.
Anyways, good scenery out there for sure

Was it cut out? I rode it all last friday and there was shittons of blow downs. Actually pushed up Wilson's because I'm an idiot.
Yes, recently cleared. Didn’t have to dismount once.
Got that beta this afternoon from someone who rode it this morning :)

Dang, can’t imagine shlepping my bike up the canyon. I think that alone would take me over an hour. That time is insane!

On the west side, stuff is opening up all around the valley.
- Mikesell good to go from the bottom. Trail crew has been working on this one.
- Southern Valley all good to go (hero dirt today but as busy as I have ever seen it).
- Horseshoe good to go. Might still be a bit of mud on the backside of Sodbuster. Trail day yesterday on Training Wheels which is now part of the system, thanks to our district ranger.
- Heard that Grove is good almost to the top. Will investigate soon.
- Mill Creek open to Colter's woo hoo!
- Spooky is clear to Corral, lower Corral good but with one big tree too big for BB's saw.
- Going this week to investigate Mahogany for some early season aerobic to anearobic workout.
that's what I got....
-
Thanks for the update!
Did Jay actually authorize Training Wheels?
Maybe another busted up tricycle needs to go up in a tree…:FIREdevil
are the drops still there, or has it been sanitized?
Sadly, some people have been removing rocks from Wilson Canyon (and Adam's, too), and dumbing it down. We don't have many (any?) technical trails left around town, so it's unfortunate to see people reduce challenges to meet their level rather than grow into it.
If you'd like someone to show you the line to clean it, let me know. It's MUCH easier once you see it!
I was on a schedule last summer where I incorporated a Wilson Canyon into almost every ride/daily. The tech portion's really short!
Wilson's actually a pretty good ride uphill... except for that 2' downhill portion!
Ya he evidently got frustrated with the ongoing Targhee process and quietly adopted it. I didn't go to trail day but they got about halfway to Bovine. Not sure about the jumps, but FS is trying to keep it on the down-low, so it would be great if you did the same.

Man that's a shame, can't imagine ever doing that. Those people deserve a big L card.
The first [double?] root is usually what gets me. The second two short punchy moves I can usually nail now, I think it was more a problem with my stamina than line choice. But would love to get out for a ride at some point!Quote:

Impressive. Reflecting on it... yea you're right, the hike a bike section is probably what, a quarter mile?Quote:

Really need to find a shuttling crew for the pass. Parked at TC this morning and rode up to parallel. Kind of sessioned my way down. Previously had never hit the 3 pack before the boner log, and the boner log set. After that drove up to the top of Jimmys and had a clean run hitting everything down to TC. It's all built so damn well, major props to the trail crew. Somehow never rode the pass once last year, the work that they've done at the bottom of parallel is stellar.
Got it. I did see it on that conditions post on 5/25, definitely caught my eye.
