I apologize for doubting TGR
I've always wanted one so I sort of follow that market. I don't want one to drive through because they kinda feel like shit but they look cool.
The one I drove was like the same era corvette. Straight line pull, but not much else.
The fit and finish was terrible, and the interior looked homemade.
Could probably pick up a few here:
Montucky needs GOTOS.
Here is a 4Runner, almost 300K on the odometer, painted with MonstaLiner (“just spray the whole car with ArmorAll and it will look brand new”), plus homemade bumpers front and rear. Bonus = it has frame rot, but it’s located in Rhinelander WI so that’s a given.

She’ll go 30 hectares on a single tank of kerosene!

I told Potsie I’d do this…

I was today years old when I learned there was an East German car with a plastic body, powered by a motorcycle engine. Just wow.
My Man. Trabi.
"a hollow lie of a car, constructed of recycled worthlessness .. a virtual antique when it was designed, trabants smoked like a Iraqi oil fire - when they ran at all .. ich bin junk!"

How did we miss the Amphicar? 'if the bilge pump couldn't keep up, the amphicar became the worlds most aerodynamic anchor'
This thread reminds me of the best Top Gear episode ever.

^^^
Lol. This whole thread is like that Top Gear episode, the Peugeot episode and the most recent Grand Tour French cars episode all wrapped up in one.
Reliable and dangerous are two different things though.
I just think that Amphicar is a little off course for this thread.
You might even say that it wasn’t…
wait
wait
That it wasn’t even IN THE SAME LEAGUE!!

The second-tier water park I was at a lifeguard at growing up had an Amphicar parked by the wave pool on a display.
That poor thing ended up in the wave pool at just about every staff after hours party and was the spot to be floating with your beer as you judged the sometimes-nude bodysurfing contest.
I was always amazed it never sunk. Way too reliable in that aspect.
LeCar, Lada, Yugo are the crappy cars that break but you can fix with hosecLamps and a rock. Austin needs the highs and lows that only come with high end old vehicles. Jensen FF.
When I was a kid, a guy on my paper route had a Jensen Interceptor. It was in pristine condition and only driven to/from car shows and the occasional sunny Sunday drive. I couldn't tell you if it was a Mk1 or 2, what year, or which engine other than it was a Chrysler V8 w/auto. That curved back window was space age cool, and the whole thing was very 'luxury sports car'.
Years later as an adult seeing a convertible, I realized that it actually had great lines without the roof/glass dome silliness.

^^ LOL :D
This car is a survivor well maintained solid driver. The engine and drive train perform as they should. There is one electrical gremlin, you cannot run the A/C (which does work) with the headlights on there is not enough output from the alternator. The boost gauge does not work and the speedometer is not accurate. The interior shows entry wear on the drivers side. The clock works sometimes. Newer tires and all necessary maintenance have been handled. The turbo’s kick in quickly and it’s a blast to drive. It will burn as much rubber as you want through first into second gear.

A couple of small projects that should keep you out in the garage and out of the wife's way.
Dude! A Jensen FF with the 440 is one of those top of the hit list cars for me. C'mon, a Chrysler lump with factory installed Lucas smoke bombs and a rudimentary AWD system, what could go wrong?!!
I dont know how a shifter this high cant be called a stick shift

Geo Metro is really a Suzuki. It and the 4runner may have problems, but reliability ain't one.
Wasn't there also a Geo car that was a rebadged Toyota Corolla?
It was the Chevy Nova that was a rebadged Corolla in the late 80’s. Put almost 300,000 miles on one between my brother, sister and I. It was the hand me down college car. It’d probably still be running if my sister hadn’t wrecked it. 40+ MPG but not a lot of power.
Prism was a rebadged Toyota something, which was basically a Corolla but was not exact to the one sold in the US.
Ahhh…looked it up, ‘Sprinter’ which would be the JDM sister to the Corolla.
Somehow we’re talking about Corolla in a “least reliable” thread lol. Soon we should get to the 6MTturbodieselAWDwagon, no? At least that would fit more of the criteria.

Prism was the one I was thinking about.
And we're here talking about Toyota because someone brought up the Geo Metro and just like that, we had thread drift. Now I wanna go back in time and drift my mom's 85 Tercel hatchback on a dirt road one more time fir giggles.
1979 Triumph TR7 - perfect for Montucky.

Speaking of Renault, anybody else remember this classic commercial for the Kangoo?

For peak quirk though, I'd be tempted to nab a Citröen C6 if I ever saw one out in the wild, however that will likely be nigh on impossible.

Speaking of unusual European cars, funny this is due to my proximity to Mexico, I actually see Peugeots, Renaults, and SEATS (Spanish cars) fairly regularly around here. And apparently soon we might be getting Citröen and Opel too! In MX that is: https://autodinamico.mx/entradas/cit...delos-veremos/
Grey market import is an interesting angle. You have a trailer for the parts car?
SEAT = Spanish Volkswagen

Hi, this is a reminder that hackers have been getting into accounts with stale old passwords and causing mayhem scamming people in gear swap.
Update your passwords, be wary in gear swap, report suspect activity!
Runs beautifully! Needs some TLC but it's good to go and will serve well as a DD while dialing in the details. Bring (a pile of) cash and drive it home. Price TBD

It's a Montucky special. Actually it's probably too nice.
It's probably not unreliable, in fact, it's probably better than Montucky should get but, with the salvage title it's hard to register and insure in a lot of states but MT is probably easy. Buy this and stop looking. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...3512402109734/ If I hadn't just dropped a pile of $$ into mine I'd be on my way to look at this.
Hahaha. After losing my beloved DeVille due to rodents chewing up wiring and causing said car to catch on fire, there's good reason the insurance company totaled that XC60. Hard pass. Even for me. Also, WTF did those owners do to that car?! Super trashed! They prolly never bothered changing their oil either if they took such lousy care of their car.
