Yeah good choice, the PC would beat teh shit out of us. It was only an 18'er in her defense but, knowing what I know now, just looking at the viper I can see its got a better ride. Rod boxes fucking nice too.

Looks like your top snaps to the windshield. The old PC had that and I got pretty damn good at settign it up quick. Call me weak but when it was 40 degrees and drizzling and I was 20 minutes away from the fishing spot or trolling for hybrids, having that set up was $$$$. Like a little pilot house out of the wind.

I used to pass the Luther Little all the time in Wiscasset, ME and watched it (and the Hesper) slowly deteriorate, There were plans to save them but the ice won.

I'm a sucker for Downeast boats, here's a Wesmac 46, it's a badass ride. Many Downeast boats are still built for lobstering and commercial fishing but people get them yacht-finished for cruising and sportfishing too.

I worked salmon in CA and OR off this beauty in '88 & 89. 1929 double-ender; she wasn't fast, but she was stable. I had her out in weather I had no business being in.

Some dimwit sunk her at anchor in Yaquina Bay years ago. After salvage, she just wasn't the same.

The owner of the boatyard also owned a Caddy/Olds/GMC dealership, One day GMAC credit informed him that he owed them 6 million (that he no longer had and went up his nose) and they wanted it now. He went down to his 501 Chris Craft and shot himself.
I had a customer who owned a large expensive offshore powerboat, every Friday we'd get 10 barrels of Cam 2 race fuel and We'd put half of it in his boat. Saturday We'd put the rest in. He had another boat ( big Sea Ray) in a Marina in Lindenhurst that had several bullet holes in the plexiglass door. One night someone came thru the gate (that had a security guard) and took a shot at him, He was proud of the fact there was one going in the door, and 5 going out. They found him dead in his house a couple years later.

I've had Yamahas my whole life. If it were possible, that is what would be on there. They drill out the holes, and Mercs sit on different centers than Yami and Suzuki. Unless I want to patch and re-core, which I don't, this boat will always have Mercs. Those EFI's were just as strong and reliable as my old OX66- they just drink gas, where the OX drinks oil. The new Mercs are highly regarded, so I have changed my opinion on them. My buddy is a certified Yammi and Merc mechanic, and he recommends sticking with Merc when I jump to 4 stroke.
The fact that I didn't really pay for the motors helps. If I put 2 4 strokes on there brand new, the boat is worth that much more, at least that is what I see on boat trader. New boats have gotten so out of hand price wise, this was a no brainer type of deal.

OMC is non existent here. The new Brunswick design on the E Tec never made it to salt. E Tec are cool for older boats that need lighter weight, but if you don't have a reliable dealer nearby, no engine is any good. Tons of Yammi and Merc guys here, and Suzuki is taking over with cheap prices, but low service ratings.

The Whaler is a 1972 Sourpuss- 13 ft.

Another good customer story. I had customer with a 41' Chris Craft offshore boat, It had a big Blimp painted on the side and he made it well known he owned the Met Life Snoopy blimp (Airships International). he eventually sold the boat and moved to Florida. One night I'm flipping thru the channels and stop on a show called American Greed or something, They start the show saying something about this guy being Art Garfunkel's nephew, Then added he owned a blimp, ended up being the same guy. After he moved to Fla he started managing the famous 90's boy bands, stealing their money then started molesting them, Then moved on to retirement scams. In all they figured he scammed 6 million from people. He died in prison a couple years ago.

Boats bring out the crazies sometimes.

Lots of times.

At least he lived in Florida. Gotta keep the streak alive.

Rough trying to live aboard in winter. Everything is cold and it just soaks into your bones, even if the air inside is warm the water cools everything.

I do a week in a houseboat each summer, and that’s enough for me.

living on a boat is like camping. do you like camping? How about backpacking? if you don't, you'll need a big well outfitted boat. If you can camp, you can live on a boat, any boat.

But when us youngin's were aboard it could usually be found on a ball near the Willy T or Saba Rock most nights.

Some of the best memories of my life. Like anything else, it got harder to use as we all grew and started families.

Well that's pretty dam nice. Huge compared to some of what I'm looking at (not that I intend to live aboard if I ever do pull the trigger). I love camping, and backpacking. But after a couple weeks (at th emost) I'm ready for overstuffed furniture, a long hot shower, and conditioned air.

Thanks, trust me when I say it looks way bigger that it is. You really find yourself spending all your time on it either in the salon or above deck - which isn't too bad when its 85 and sunny most every day. I've lived on sailboats on the Great Lakes for a week or so at a time during poor weather and I can say that any longer than that would be trying.

that's part of my struggle. If I buy I'd keep it in Puget Sound, which does tend towards gray and wet for much of the year. I'm starting to lean towards a smaller boat and a small house, rather than a larger boat. So, a cottage and a day/weekend cruiser in the 30' range, rathe rthan something in the 45' range.

My aunt bought Burt Reynolds old houseboat in the early 90's when he went through a bankruptcy or two. Lived on it for 5 years or so. She never had kids so would pay to have us kids down for the summers. Posted up mostly in Coconut Grove and would spend weeks cruising the keys and Bahamas.

There was a collection of photos left behind on the boat that took full advantage of the mirrored ceilings in the captain's quarters.

It smelled like (what I now know is) stale sex and you were always a bit damp, but damn that boat was awesome.

Shitty photo, but the Miss Bandit in all her post Reynolds glory. She had a rough life, but it sure saw some good times along the way.

First of all, OMC only makes sterndrives, OMC owned Jonson & Evinrude outboards. OMC sterndrives were always second class to Mercruiser sterndrives. To say all Mercury's suck is pure ignorance, or just stoopid bias...they all had some engines that weren't great.

I've flown all Johnyrudes and Mercs...

The first one with the Modified Johnson 15 is 9' 4" long and does 59 mph.

The other one with a box stock 25 Merc, where I'm doing a bad job of crashing, (I stayed upright by sheer willpower,) is 10' 8" long and does 70 mph.
