The ankle can be a technical punch on any cabrio but I always found the plastic itself is super easy to punch. The R3 does have a lower melt point than a plug so maybe they melted one. I can't remember if they have a removable cuff but assuming it does I would always mark the spot then pull the boot apart and punch the clog first all by itself.Quote:

I did a big punch on my ankles. It was easy to move the plastic, but the punch was close enough to the edge that the edge is now wavy. Looks terrible but works fine. Most bootfitters don’t want work that looks like mine going out the door, so that may be part of their issue.

I had krypton’s prior, and the biggest improvement is obviously the weight. They tongue flex is kinda finicky, I find myself adjusting it throughout the day in both directions but outside that I love this boot for 50/50.

First impression - the cuff is tall af and I love that. They are nowhere near the bulldozer that the lupo/krypton is.
I'd agree. But I'd also say that they are still a REAL 130 flex, but with more "feel" if that makes sense. Surprising amount of finesse for the cabrio boot. I'm really impressed by the R3 and the Element - very similar yet with their own personalities. I'd really like to try the R/Fit Pro 130/120 for my carvers...Quote:

the very long way to do it with roxa parts - before roxa put a walk mode on the element, the old element had a forward lean adjustor - takes away the walk mode, and i think you'd need to switch the cuff, clog is same mold, if you can find the part could be a plus or minus depending on if you care on the walk mode

I have the neon yellow 21-22 R3 130 TI's. I've seen some discussion on Dynamic Response Inserts in this thread--mine seem to have partially torn out, specifically the rivet on the outside side of both boots. Well, the rivet itself is intact, it just pulled through the DRI itself (the yellow shell is also quite warped, seems like there was a lot of stress on this rivet). Has this happened to anyone here? Should I warranty? Replace the rivet? The whole DRI? I'm concerned it'll just pull out again...

After heat molding the liners, they feel like slippers. Comfier than the krypton.

Anyone have a source for dalbello boot cuff straps? Or tecnica? I don’t love booster straps, but I want something that closes with a clasp and not with Velcro.
Anyone else (Al?) have advice for skinny legs in this boot?

SupreChicken, I like this idea. I also suffer from skinny calves and I'm maxing out the velcro strap and by the end of the day, the boots are just a little loose at the top. I absolutely love the boots and want to make them work at the top cuff since the rest of the boot feels so damn good.
Some questions if you don't mind:
Did you reuse the attachment point of the velcro buckle for the new Krypton buckle? If not, where did you drill?
Is the power strap re-purposed from another boot?
Another solution might be to re-drill the existing attachment point of the velcro strap towards the back of the boot about 1cm. That should yield an additional 2cm of "strap" length for my calves to work with. See below. Red = existing attachment point, Blue = new attachment point.

I could have reused the attachment point from the velcro but I didn’t.
There are two rows of holes in the 2023 boot where the Velcro attaches. I moved it to the lower row and drilled a new hole. There was a clear place to drill. Hard to explain without photos, but the holes have what I would describe as a “counter sunk” area inside the cuff - this is on all of the holes and one more area where a hole was not drilled, but had the same cuff structure as the holes. So it was obvious where I should drill. The counter sink area is built to accept the vertical rectangular metal that surrounds the female end of the clasp attachment screw.
It did end up being roughly toward the back of the boot about 1 cm.
I took the lower row to give room for the Velcro strap above.
The strap is leftover from my old lupos. I upgraded that to a booster.
@callmeal suggested to throw a wrap liner in there to see if that solved some of my skinny calf woes. Huge difference for heel hold and volume occupancy. They feel like a light krypton on the carpet now.
The things I dislike:
-the wrap is shorter than the tongue liner.
-the boot with clasps and straps attached now weighs 1640g per foot. Not bad, but wayyyy heavier than the ZGTP that I used to have.
-the wrap isn’t a tour wrap. So I’d need to spend some $$ or do some Achilles surgery on the liner to make it tour friendly.
-the Velcro strap is just that - I’d really rather have a cam strap of some kind, but I haven’t wanted to spend $50 on that accessory and they don’t seem to ever go on sale.
For tomorrow, I’m going to try to A-B them with the different liners. I could easily see touring with one liner and riding lifts with the other.

That second row of holes is there because the R3 shares an upper cuff with the Element, so there is a designated spot for an upper buckle/power strap as SC mentioned.
I know some shop guys who Elementify their own personal R3s like SC did, but with a Booster instead of the Roxa strap.
Per the short wrap liner, you'll find that the Powerwraps that come from Roxa are a bit taller than the Intutions you buy direct, or even come in other manufacturers boots. Same with old Kryptons IIRC
Left-right/ tall-short here is a 26.5 Powerwrap from an R3, a 26.5 tongue liner from an R3, and a 27.5 Powerwrap from an older Scarpa boot for comparison.

It’s not the bulldozer a krypton is. But with a wrap in it, it’s pretty close. I think I put the upper buckle a little too far back. It was extraordinarily tight on my calves while skiing such that I was actually happier leaving it unclasped for most of the laps and just using the top Velcro strap for support. Now this is on a mostly firm day with occasional Powder. I think on a day with some chop or leftovers or more variable snow. I would have gone ahead and tightened everything down. But since I remain undecided between the wrap liner and the tongue liner for most of the duties, I’m going to leave the buckles right where they are and then do my next ski day in the tongue liner.
Definitely impressed by the downhill performance. Need a pow day on 191 billy goats to show me a similarly great performance before I will endorse selling the kryptons.
But they drive the bent 110, whitewalker just fine. Revolt 121 didn’t feel great, but I didn’t get along with that ski in the kryptons either, so…it’s probably not the roxas.
Nice responsiveness to both a chill upright stance or an aggressive forward stance. Progressive feel to the flex. Plenty of feedback and support.
Really pleased overall with the tweaks.
