It does say “snow tires” with M&S designation, not any tires with M&S designation. So, who knows?

edit: Too slow. Realistically, as long as you have M/S's with a decent tread depth on a respectable vehicle and don't look like a fool I doubt you'll get hassled. There may end up being quite a few very upset tourists whose rented SUVs came with summer tires, though.

Not a fan of the UPD but I am all in for them checking on powder days. All too often last season they were not checking at the mouth of LCC. I went through tire check at 9. He was looking at something but not tires. More like drivers and judging if they were capable. Buddy came through 20 minutes later and cop was gone.
It just slows down Powder early birds. But I have had issues with yahoos in 2 wheel drive jackknifed blocking road and shutting it down for everyone so have to find a balance

It's unpossible to check all tires up close. Probably just the early season act to send out the vibe & scare dishwarshers.
Maybe they should not let 2 WD down the Canyon, make them ride the bus and or Uber. The Subie with bald tires a local got in the guys face, called him a "fuck head" for endangering the lives of others and reported him to the Town Marshall. Canyon closed about 11:00 AM and reopened about 4:30 PM. We were holed up in the GMD and I watched four guys help push him up the hill to get out. On restricted days walk the parking lots and ticket 2WD and no chain vehicles.

I have left notes on people's cars before in the GMD lot and various snowbird lots when I notice their tires are bald. Without fail, I've seen those same cars up there again the next week with the same bald ass tires. Some people just don't give a fuck.
I was also in the process of helping tow a 2wd merc out of a drift one time, but the guy told me to mind my own business when I pointed out a RWD summer tired vehicle doesn't belong at snowbird during a snowstorm. Ok, fuck you then, I'll let public safety pull your ass out.

Thanks for the intel earlier also. Wife and I decided to stay the course. Will be there 12/16-12/21. Skiing may suck but family time in the mountains away from the office is good.
Rental companies say they are going to equip cars with snow tire. Technically any 2wd or 4wd car needs snow tires November thru May. When 4wd or chains light is flashing it means exactly that. Dealing with all the cement trucks delivering to snow pine construction in Alta is going to be a pain in the ass all winter long.
Whoa yeah forgot about that.. How low can they pour concrete these days? I know its below freezing, but damn it gets cold up at Alta in mid winter. Are they really going to be doing that all season?
