pure tripe? or just offal.
Now you're down in the guts of the matter.
The whole thing was the ploy to roundup some good talent anyway
Jeff Bezos can get fucked.
Well that killed the steak, er streak of puns abruptly.
I think we milked it pretty well
Wanted to make sure I didn't misudderstand there might have been one in there
Cud you guys quit the bull, this is a serious topic.
Moooo-ve on!
Bullocks! It's a steerious topic.
You know some poor schmuck mayor is going to give away the farm to land this, and when it doesn’t happen he’ll quickly get put out to pasture.
Bovinity divinity.
I have a feeling that Amazon has known exactly what city they want to build the HQ2 in all along and this bidding process is all just an attempt to get this city to offer up bigger incentives.
I certainly hope it doesn’t go to Denver, but I did just buy a house so that would be pretty nice if my property value skyrocketed
^^ along with your property taxes...
I never understood the value of having my home skyrocket in price.
To replace it, I'd have to move somewhere else.
I might do that just because it's gotten so expensive here.
I know the valley is nuts right now , but there’s so much talent from SF to San Jose, worth consideration .
NOT Denver . I don’t give a fuck about property values
See my first post. Retired Amazon Web Services exec (and former Sequoia guy) spoke at our firm and said the next trend you are going to see is companies moving to the customer, not to the tech (read, Bay). Midwest and southern cities are putting in 5g blanket coverage to help woo them. Shit, we just got Google fiber and it’s already been outdated
Going to the Valley really doesn't make sense; too expensive, for one thing. Two world HQ's in the same time zone on the same coast is defeating to the point of the effort. There's lots of less expensive talent in other areas of the continent. Toronto really makes sense in light of the use of immigrant talent that have a harder time getting into the U.S. We had that problem in my old company so had an engineering office near Toronto for that very reason.
If there were so much talent there, I wouldn't double my salary by moving there from SLC. And it's circa 100 minutes on a plane from Seattle.
If you want relatively underpaid high-end MBA and engineer talent, you're going to Pittsburgh or Boston. But in Boston it's almost as pricey as Seattle and you're competing with GE.
off to greener pastures
I heard comments that they are also considering Canada- Toronto or the surrounding Metro area was mentioned as well.
Mooooo, eh?

I don't get it
cities and states bend over backwards to give mega corporations endless tax breaks so they can bring "jobs" to their city, this is the biggest bullshit out there, Dillon CO, small town usa, has been doing it with REI and now christy sports while the small business is nothing more than lunch meat, really a tax break for REI? what the fuck was that all about? REI doesn't make any money so they need a hand
Amazon and the rest of these big companies have huge promises but usually fail to deliver on half the numbers they throw out there
Half the state of Colorado (mostly investors, real estate developers, and poticians) are wetting their panties about the idea of amazon comming while the rest of the population wants nothing to do with them, why can't we have amazon pay an impact fee instead of giving them tax breaks, meanwhile the average joe will be picking up the tax burden for roads and schools, while amazon can increase profits
it's total bullshit
On the
This ^
Amazon is going to be stupid big in five years
Why not actually move to the Amazon?
If it were not for the Dutch West India Company--the Amazon of its day--New York City might today look much like Wilmington, Delaware populated with heathens and undesirables.
