Wrong forum! Don't come in here and jong up a fun thread, there's a place for that kind of stoopid shit

This thread has devolved into a modern day parable of North Korea where DigitalDeath is an antiaircraft gun and I’m Kim Jong Un’s soviet era haircut ...

Watched the video last night. Going off the discussion here I thought it would've been more about the stalker/hater shit. It was framed around that, but majority was about her life and the Chuting gallery goal. Could've done with a lot more skiing and info about the Chuting gallery -- her and McLean chatting would've been cool. But I'm in the minority of REIs viewership in wanting to geek out about such things.
She slays.
Watched the REI bit, had no idea who she was before other than vaguely hearing about the stalking bullshit. Looks like pretty damn legit skills and dedication to me, no idea what drives the nutbars to harass her. At least she doesn't just use her sexual appeal to gain a following without having legit skills: Sierra Quitiquit (who is also nauseating to listen to).
Did they catch the stalkers yet? Would be hilarious if their real identities were outed online. Probably some losers from SLC that post on TGR.
Stalkers may not be assholes just crazy. I have an RO on an ex gf. She's a really nice, caring, attractive person who unfortunately is deranged. She just can't help herself. The RO was difficult...my chances at benefits ended.
Don't know about CG but in other sports I've known athletes pre-fame acquire a fame persona that's fictional. Sponsors do it to cash in.
Outside mag ran an article on her and her stalker. Well it starts with her and goes onto some other athletes that had stalkers
Caroline and I both attended a 3-day workshop last weekend. A van picked us and Brody Leven and Thomas Woodson at the airport, and we stopped in Truckee to get Clare Gallagher, and while we were looking for her Caroline said that she wanted to take something to the lodge to drink, and so we walked downtown in the rain looking for a liquor store before bailing and just going to Safeway. Prolly the best 30 minutes of my life.
^^^ Yer funny...but I like you.
What does CG drink :)
Amazing all the hate she gets...WTF:
https://www.outsideonline.com/231381...-gleich-sexism
tl;dr
Yes, I used guides. But I knew them, so they weren't really guides. Except when they were. But I'm a strong female, and using guides is clearly not feminist. So while I did use guides, as a feminist, I don't like that I used guides, so I won't admit that I used guides.
How dare someone go out in the mountains with their friends! Who are also skilled in the mountains! If she did or didn’t who gives a shit. Takes nothing away from the accomplishment IMO.
You lead the up and ski the down then you’ve done it.
All of life is a journey of learning. It's sad when people don't want to admit that.
I get it. There is sexism out there. Yep. Pretty lady skier got stalked. That sucks and is not okay any day. Chick skier trying to make it in a man dominated sector of a man dominated sport. She charges harder than I ever could without a doubt. I dont give 2 shits if she uses a guide. Sage doesnt ski those ak lines on his own who cares. I appreciate her enviro stance and have stood shoulder to shoulder with her more than once....
But when I read something like that I cant help read it in the voice of my 13 yo when he gets his iphone taken away.

You know what they say... when someone is giving you criticism, everything before the “but” is bullshit.
an old buzzed river rat ran the green and colorado solo said "i have had my reward in the doing of the thing"
obviously this isnt enough for this super special snowflake and grasping at straws to sway public opinion is going to validate these accomplishments
funny thing is totally respect the accomplishment of skiing classic wasatch lines
i have a guide friend who passed avvy 3 last season
his shit is tight
i totally believe if carolines skills were anywhere near his level she would of passed
but.......
well like the poopenhausen
fine excuse girl:fmicon:
Is it typical that one fails their level 3 because of things that are outside the course material? Do they review your entire history of mountaineering and decide whether you get a level 3 or not? If you go in knowing that these thing may stop you getting your level 3, then fine.
But if instructors are citing things well outside the purview of the course or viewed you during the course differently than others because of what they know about you -- that's implicit bias and cannot be used to make an objective decision on pass / fail.
Her article as well written, not whiney, and made real points. You guys being naysayers about the article are perfectly illustrating the points she makes. I've seen, in more than one dude only ski porn, guides that are leading the heli trip make a go/no go call. Did the dudes get ridiculed for having guides? No, they didn't. Caroline upped the ante, leading human powered trips also with a photo/video crew, and she still gets shit.
I'm also curious about the standard for passing avy 3 mentioned above. Is it standard practice to let perceived actions outside the class to influence the pass/fail decision?
You’re conflating a river rat with a sponsored athlete who’s job is to bring exposure to her sponsors.
A man would never have gotten any of this hate, or had people claiming he didn’t deserve credit because he went into the backcountry with other people.
It’s fucking bonkers to expect a person to do something like this and not have tons of other people involved on various levels. And it’s equally bonkers to just expect her stay quiet later. Both in promoting her film or responding to criticism.
dont know much about avvy 3 and what criteria you need to pass
cept i doubt i could pass
i do think if you show up with your skills dialed and left no doubt in your instructors mind you pass
and i do not believe that a sexist conspiracy or preconcieved notion is the bottom line that a doubt serious enough to not pass was the reason they deemed her avalaunche snow science skill set as not up to their avvy 3 standards
and yur butthurt whining only belittles your accomplishments, feeds the hungry ego, and does little to sway the the court of public opinion within my small circle of friends and does the opposite of most everything that poorly written #metoo rant in a shitty social media platform
for free
Did SFB just accuse someone else of poor writing?
It doesn't need to be a conspiracy. Sexism rarely is. But the fact her instructors wrote what they did in failing her makes it clear they had preconceived notions about this person. Throughout the class, they likely unconsciously sought out actions that reaffirmed their beliefs. There is a lot of research on the fact that most every one of us does this, and it blinds us in certain ways. (https://youarenotsosmart.com/ is a great podcast on similar matters.) They then referred not to her actions in the class, but to her life outside it as part of the reason she failed. There may have been other reasons she failed, but by writing what they did they undermine any legitimate concerns they had with her performance.
I agree with doebedoe, zartagen, and supermoon.
show up and own the class
ya pass
but it obviously didnt happen that way
and your free to believe what ever narrative you choose
Americans have such a weird idea about guiding, as if anything done with a guide deserves an *. I just had this conversation with a guide friend of mine, about how different it is when he guides in Chamonix, where many of his clients have a similar skillset but still choose to go with a guide.
I thought the same thing. And I thought it was odd that these accusations came from a guide seeing as that I always hear guides talking about the European model where there is no shame in having a guide.
We have some guides on the board. I’d love to hear their perspective on this.
She's the Rodney Dangerfield of skiing, so many other women ripping skiers don't quite get the layers of shit she does. They all experience sexism I'm sure, but there's something about her that really sets guys off for some reason.
She’s a good skier. It’s kinda rare for a woman to do what she does. I wish she would keep more quiet and rise above, (so to speak).
If she keeps quiet, the shit that she and all women in the outdoors world deal with stays quiet and the same. That's just continuing the bullshit.
She's obviously decided she wants to use her recognition to influence causes she cares about: the environment, sexism in the outdoors industry, etc. If she only wanted to be known for her climbing/skiing exploits, she could do that too. But she wants to do more than that. So does Alex honnold but no one tells him to just keep quiet and rise above environmental degradation.
That’s why I said more quiet.
Successful sponsored athlete takes advantage of all press. Astute maneuver. Her 15 minutes was successfully extended.Quote:
I’m grateful for these doubts because they give me the opportunity to set the record straight.
Seems valid to ask: does elevating the rumors and defending and shining a light on her accomplishments in the process help the women in her field more than it separates her from them by demonstrating her superior ability to leverage media?
Well said.
I was trying to figure out the right way to say the same thing.
This thread got her in the public eye.
So damit just post up the link to what I am supposed to watch next.
I am not offended that we are being worked to get some chatter about an outdoor sports personality.
I would rather see press on Caroline that Vonn
I think the whole production quality thing rubs people the wrong way. Alex doesn't put perfect production quality instagram shots out there, he just does his thing. I don't think its the fact that she is supporting these causes, but it comes off as more virtue signaling for publicity than from the heart kinda thing. She is the equivalent of a vanlife instagram account of skiing. Either way it is pretty dumb, but she could be more real about it.
She is a badass mountain athlete that deserves huge respect for her accomplishments. Plus she has a brain and is outspoken about causes she believes in, yet another reason she deserves respect. Plus she is hot: 8/10, would bang.
Edit: the whole guide thing is complete bull. So she hired a guide to provide safety/rigging for the film crew ? But a male athlete whose film crew were in a Heli get a pass because they weren't using a guide ? That is bullshit. I have huge respect & admiration for her.
