Stripers still running on the MA North Shore. Haven’t seen any blues yet. Caught some small ones with swim shads, sand eel jigs and smaller bombers. I haven’t caught anything big yet, finally got the boat in so maybe that will change. It’s been fun to chase them from the shores. Pics won’t load right now so I’ll try again later
Picking up schoolies around Westport island from the canoe. I ll bring the phone today. Small stripers on my 8 wt is super fun. Mostly slow trolls over structure on strong tides. Maine rocks.
Never caught a striper on a fly. That must be fun. Rebel lures, bunker, calico crabs and sand worms were always my go to.
I don't fly fish in salt, but boy is it a lot of fun to hook on to a good size striper in a canoe.

Back from Maine. No more action for me. We were staying on the Hubbard Point preserve on Westport Island. 2 older, small, dog friendly houses sit on this point, very private and separated by 50 wooded acres. The cove is great water. Lots of current, lots of bait, and I saw fish almost every day. The water was super glassy and I ran out of light mono on the second day so i was casting 15# for the last half of the week. I saw a couple little blitzes but my casting would put the fish down. Super fun way to spend a few hours a day. We booked on HomeAway. I'd recommend the property for people trying to check out, it is very private and an amazing place for my ADHD kid and my Dad's 2 ADHD Chessies. There's also an Organic Farm that makes really nice seasonal saisons about a mile away at TarBox Farm. I could live in Maine....
No fish pics as my son was draining my phone battery like an electron vampire. Here's the house, Hubbard cove, and a peek out past Hubbard point towards Knubble Bay and Hells Gate.
Did a 5:00 am run to Billingsgate shoal off Dennis on a buddies little center console yesterday and fished hard all morning.
Just had this guy and a decent size blue to show for it. Caught on a Deadly Dick w a tube. We also tried frozen mackerel, worm and tube and some deep diving plug. Lots of birds tho and we saw at least three keepers on other boats.
Was a reely fun morning.
Caught my first schoolie stripers of the year yesterday, there are a lot of them around Boston harbor right now. This might have been the biggest of the 4, they were tiny. Caught all of them on small, silver Storm Shads with neon yellow accent. Was surprised to not get any bites on 5’’ soft sand eel jig (red head with a white body), I’ll try different colors of those today, they usually love ‘em.

Big ol bumpity.
Just booked airfare to hang with Pops 6/17-6/26, will be based in Bourne for the most part probably starting 6/17 or 18, need to spend some time seeing some old friends and exploring the metro west breweries before heading down cape for the week. I'll have my gf with me and she's not really a fisher, so early am's are best, could easily sneak away for a half day though. Anyone wanna give a mag a boat ride and hammer on em? Should be primo schoolie time. Bringing the 8 wt (all I have) and a selection of flies. Have a ghetto stripping basket stashed with dad.
Fly recs, beta, etc appreciated. Go-to's in the past have been launching a little (read, stillwater) kayak at Monument or Barlows, or on foot around the Lobster trap flats/perry marsh.
Nice! Wish I could join you but I’m gonna be ballz deep in a renovation project in Maine by then. Your post got me psyched for living by the tides after a winter in the hills.

I will start poking around on the Northshore flats a week from tomorrow. I plan to be around through June so If as anyone wants to take a look I will show ya around. All wading unless you bring a paddle board.
Got my first one of the year in a small estuary that connects with Boston Harbor on Thursday 5/5

Forgot about this thread! Been fishing pretty hard since Late April, largest was a week ago 5/15 down off the shore Buzzards Bay 40" 28# slob.
@self ill fish w ya around the harbor during the week, likely heading out from shore tomorrow after work
@2nd ill head up there and explore a bit, I wade as wellshoot me a pm
@phall I lived on Barlows landing when I was 0-3 years old, I usually get down to the cape thurs-tues early am, fish the beaches and canal from shore. no fly rod but can fish the shore w ya or point you to fly-friendly territory. lmk when youre around
The fishing has been really good, didn’t think I’d want to be going at it as hard as I have been. Slots around every almost every night and often during the day. Congrats on that 40’’er, great fish for May. I lost a pretty nice one about a week ago when my (stupidly-light) leader got sliced on some shellfish, thinking it was mid 30’’ range.
Not sure if I can make this evening work but I try to fish every weeknight when I can. I’ll send ya a pm soon.
Thinking the slots are the 2015 class

Haha!
Heading down to the south shore tonight, hopefully it doesn’t rain too too hard.
Could hit Boston harbor tomorrow pm before the celts game??
Where you hitting today? Neponset-ish? Could do that on the way (going to marshfield)
Ahhh. Was up there last week. I’ll take a rain check (no pun intended) maybe next week?
You getting out this week?
The fishies are here in Salem/Beverly. Lots of fish on the flats in the 20’s with a few bigs mixed in. No issues finding them a couple hours on either side of the low. Both intermediate and floaters are being used. Mostly brown clousers with pearl and chartreuse/ brown combo working too. Midweek I am available to bring folks to the fishies.
Getting super excited for my trip. Found my old fly tying stuff from high school. I dabble in squirmy worms and midges but don’t invest in anything. Managed to whip up two clousers and a half and half which I screwed up but still looks a little fishy.

The best strippers are in RI not MA.
Took all three generations out for an apres dinner Striper.....
Not the greatest hold for sure but swam away. Barely left the dock for this little guy. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...30b5a1a4ff.jpg

Just finished fishing off the coast of Montauk.
It was pretty great, except for the part about heading out at 4:00am.
Caught our limit of Striped bass and sea bass. These two were too big and had to go back.

fkna! those are some pigs!
speaking of Montauk, if anyone needs a guide hookup one of my buddies growing up runs a fly fishing charter out there for whatever’s in season (stripers, blues, false albies, etc)… they clean up pretty well. Windward Outfitters, ask for Peter
