a) Spiro is a long frickin climb. jesus. not much snow on Spiro at all - one spot I dismounted, right before traversing under the king corn lift.
b) Its gonna be a while before Mid Mtn is ready. Snow is still 1-2 feet deep in spots, and it looks like one section of the trail got absolutely douched by an avalanche this winter. Passing through involved a sweet to very sweet dismount-->hike through foot of snow while fighting off brambles and angry branches with my free hand.
c) John's is in nice shape. The construction kind of sucks. Two distinct logging/construction roads have been cut across the hill. I'm sort of a JONG out there, so it was a bit annoying finding my way back to the trail at the roads, but otherwise not too bad. Because of said jongishness, I'm not sure if there were other issues, but where I think I connected with Sweeney's there was a sign saying something about portion of hte trail being closed for construction. I'm not sure if that is meant for the uphillers or for a different downhill trail.
c1) Sweeney's beat me down. I had a hard time getting into a decent flow.
d) Sweetest move of the day by far - cruising down near town, see two fine ladies running up the trail, so I figure I'll be courteous and pull over and let them pass. I make the mistake of pulling off on the downhill side, put my foot down, turn an ankle on the slope, and tumble off my bike and downhill. Ladies stopped to see if I was okay, suppressing their laughter. It <--- killed.
Anyways, I'm leaving for the east coast for a week on Wednesday, so I'd like to get a ride or two in. You guys doing the morning thing?
