Buddy's ski tracks on the Whiteface toll road yesterday:

(I was instead working on the Greylock rando race course layout -- revised version to be posted once I recover from my encounters with prickers, whippers, deadfall, etc.)
Nice to see this years thread arrive right when the snow hits. Spent Friday afternoon getting new boots fit on my funked up feet. Although the last weeks and this coming weeks rain is putting a damper on biking, I'm glad to see that we are getting precipitation again. Just hope it turns to snow soon.
Grab the avalung.

Bottle will be appearing shortly from summer hibernation to tell everyone to save their coin and not bother in an attempt to guard his stashes and his beloved chowdah:o!
Bought 2 yesterday, headed to OGE today to get all my expedition gear.
First tracks and first fight... just need first face shot for the hat trick! ;)

As I was driving back from Greylock yesterday evening, I had a nice phone call with my buddy on the relative safety merits of skiing sub-inch snow "cover" on asphalt road (freshly paved apparently at Whiteface!) vs ski resort dirt/rock work road.
(Overall conclusion seems to be that the former is potentially worst for your ski edges whereas the latter is potentially worse for your knee ligaments.)
Yesterday morning at Wildcat -- looks like it could be skiable for real (although looks are often deceiving for this kind of stuff):

It's kind of a tradition for Sparky to ski the toll road first.
Wrong thread, jong. ;)

The picture Stowe's facebook page uploaded the other day was like taunting a fat kid with food, I just wanna ski!!

Hey, Weasel, Greg, and TC all back this week. Summer hibernation is almost over!
Stoked to see things ramping up, but let's not wish fall away just yet - there's much work to be done before winter.
Hope all you ECRCers have had a great summer doing what ever it is makes you happy.
True dat!
The AMC is having a Cardigan Mountain ski trail/glades work day on November 16th. Knock me over with a feather, it's totally unexpected!
Friends of Tuckerman Ravine are having a Sherby/GOSST work day this Saturday (10/25) with a rain date of Sunday.Quote:

If you missed our Trail Day last weekend, here is another chance to to spend a few hours with other hearty Thunderbolt Ski Runners getting the trail ready for SNOW!
We will meet Sunday morning October 26th at 8:30 in the Bellows South trailhead parking lot (just outside the Gould Farm gate). [jss edit: on the right, just *before* the gate to the farm]
Gas powered weed whackers are again the tool of choice. Small folding saws and shovels (for water bar cleaning) are also helpful. The club will bring an assortment of tools.
There is no need to RSVP; just show up and enjoy a few hours with like minded folks prepping the trail.
Thanks and I hope to see you Sunday,
Paul Chojnowski
