Fuck this shit. I like keeping in touch with friends from years ago but this seems like a bridge too far. And I’m so sick of the “outdoor athletes” that all act like they are sponsored; meanwhile they live in a shithole Subaru and paint this amazing outdoor life yo!

Just for shits this morning I texted my brother "Reebok, Adidas, The North Face, REI, Macy's" and by this afternoon I got an Adidias ad. I havent pulled the plug yet but it's gone when I finally get picked off enough.

Hmmmm. I follow Nat. Geo. and all their photographers, friends, relatives, and a few of you guys. I mean, I know it’s TRG and all but the “influencer” thing is pretty fake and weird. I guess with that population and the millions of followers, the data mining was just too hard to pass up. I mean who gives a fuck where a National Geographic photographer is or where I was skiing yesterday?
IGMs mining of contacts is what killed it for me, my privacy is important to me.
WhatsApp is part of fb, so I'm trying to use signal instead.
For IGM replacement, I'm looking into vero, but it seems they won't promise not to mine contacts.

I’ve noticed some pretty amazing ultra-narcissistic trends on IG (and other social media) these days that are so bizarre and crazy:
-people doing chats to their followers, talking at the phone WHILE driving. Like going on and on about something, but looking more at the camera to the side than straight ahead at the road! Pretty mindboggling.
-Hiking/mtn biking/skinning footage where the person is solo but feels the need to create better content (to mix later with POV content). They go to one spot, set up the phone recording them there with a tripod, then go back down a trail a ways, turn around and then hike/bike/skin back up to the camera. Then do it all over again at other spot further along the trek.
I’ve seen people do this while on the trail live and it’s so goddamn cringe.
I feel like we are living in the weirdest time ever.
There is plenty of IG footage that has been made on solo missions that never made it to the gram because the person died before they got back to the TH to upload. I know this for a fact.

I’m curious: do you all still use social media (FB, Twitter, and IG) often these days or are you kinda just done with it?
I’ve had FB and IG pretty much since each was developed. Posting wise, very inactive on both.
I’d like to get back to posting on IG, just as a place to photo dump, but the app has strayed so far from its intended purpose that it’s hard to get motivated/justify it. Haven’t posted in almost 2 years.
I really do love sharing photography but ever since the IG algorithm changed it’s not really about that. It’s so easy for friend’s posts to get lost in the fray of BS.
