I'll believe it when I see it, but the 120 hr GFS for this weekend is looking pretty fucking good right now.
antijinxantijinxantijinx etc etc
The brief thaw let me get some kayaking in on the Yough, but I'm definitely ready for winter to come back to WV...
WV residents ski free @ Snowshoe this Sunday...
Looks like the heart of the storm is getting pushed south by this big block of cold air. Anybody hitting CV this wknd? Will be either at WG or T'line Saturday, depends on the state of the snowpack....ride lifts or seek out driftlines at WG? hmmmm. If I hit T'line, will be on either Bro's or old Jaks, probably a red jacket...
I'll be at Whitetail PA tomorrow black pants, blue and black jacket, silver helmet with TGR stickers - skiing on either ObSETHeds or Metrons.
Ask for change....
canaan/timberline look to only get 5-6"

Sinks bound!
Winterplace was good for about 2-3 hours this morning before the hordes appeared- they had anywhere from 5-10 inches, depending on drift (snowbowl was pretty good) Meadowskipping on the hill behind my house was also good, probably 8-10 inches of loooooow angle pow. Perhapz a TR later.
decent day at Wintergreen with expected additional new snow on top of the overnight 4-6" ??? Thought there'd be more but still it's actual powder, a rarity in these hills. 2 more days on the hill.
We took the mystery machine to the Sinks but the snow cover was not quite up to par, skied the good pitches on the major drift lines with marginal run outs. Still way better than standing in lift line which we did Sunday at Blowshoe since it was free. Drinking and running the sled all over town Saturday night was fun at 10F but bring the beer inside.:p
you guys are killing it! bravo!
pics from the wknd at WhiteGrass, the thaw is a distant memory, back in business ya'll! Snow was great, ~6-8" over a verrrrry nice base, did find some thin spots though...top of Baldy in particular, one short section of baseless pow in the crux, it's just ptex...

and the weather pattern is looking GREAT! for us right now, bring it Ullr! :D:D:D:D
Could get really really nice by sunday. I'd really be looking for places around the No. VA/MD line. Btween now and sunday these areas east to balt and all the way down the apps to Tenn could be looking at significant snowfall- 18 inches is not out of the question at all.
PM if you want details and i'll do a write up over on FIS>
yeah man, great to hear, a second opinion would be $$$.
This fella down near Charleston has been putting together decent forecasts lately: chris baileys blog
did you decide on new stix yet?
really digging the white grass stuff guys, hope this storm pans out for you.
Got to spend 3 days with my son skiing Wintergreen. Small resort, nothing too challenging, fairly short vertical, but still a fun weekend. Decent snow for the Mid Atlantic. Snowy Saturday followed by EC Bluebird days on Sunday and Monday.
The best thing was spending a few days with just my son, hanging out and skiing and watching him improve. Some attached photos that pale to the stuff some folks post.

Boutros boutros gully! Cool.
shitty driving getting to the valley
$$$$$$$$$$
Cough cough, I think I am coming down with something.
Seems like a good weekend to visit friends in the high valley. Starting Friday. Maybe see what the Douglas Powderbirds are up to... :D
:ski:
Heading out to Whitetail tonight for some cheap skiing. I'll be in my bright blue Oakley coat and bright red Line skis.
And according to Accuweather, DC/Baltimore are at 300% of their average snowfall for this time of the season with another 6-12 inches expected this weekend, AND another storm on the models for next tuesday. I expect to see some footage from Virginia in the next Meatheads film!
Accuweather is wrong.
DC is 200% over Oct-Jan. average by my math...but that's cool.
I'm doing a really long write up on FIS for you all about this epic year.
Short story for now is that No. VA, MD, WVA - the area from cumberland gap to frederick MD and south to say...Shenandoah/Manassas is the honey pot right for the weekend.
VERY WET system. Cold air should remain in place thu the full atmosphere for this area. 1-2 feet NOT out of the question....
I'd go like this
best chance: 8-14
With higher amounts likely in an impossible to predict target somwhere in that zone and overall higher amts possible depending on storm speed
That should be good news since I'm in the honey pot, and have finally (semi) removed myself from my snob-induce ski funk. But, reading that bums me the fuck out since I'll be shuttling to/from the hospital all weekend.
Maybe I can swing a Wintergreen trip on Sunday. Anybody gonna be around?
Did a write up for you kids over at FIS
(yea I know about linking ...blah blah blah)
It's way to long to post here.

Could be, depending on the dump depth and expected conditions, which includes how many people can get to the hill.
LionelHutz,
Thanks for the very informative weather post. Did I miss it in the report or are you saying the major snow line will be above the Richmond, VA. area ? I saw a couple references to the NOVA area and snow, but not a definitive prediction of where that line is predicted to fall.
Also seems like this will be a heavy wet snow unlike the last 2 storms.
I think for this system the snow line will be a little blurred. You'll see mixing prob. all the way up tp DC. However west- in the hills you'll prob. remain all snow. Just really a matter of the track of the surface low. I think at this time definative predictions w/r/t rain/snow lines beyond that is foolish. My "honeypot" zone is best I can do.

damn, nice work on the forecast. That polar globe perspective is a sweet graphic. Looks like the earlier the better for getting on the road Friday... :yourock:
