Yeti, do you think its a good idea to put in your list the type of fly and size being tied to keep duplicates down to a dull roar and give each of us some feedback on what people want?
If so, i'm planning on doing pt bh nymph size 14 with a brass bead. suggestion for what group prefers welcome.
28 flies and $5 it is. Guess I have to stop fishing after work and tie some flies!
I have no preference on fly types either. I'll fish 'em all (and eventually lose them too). :D
List o' flies, keeping it streamer oriented.
2- Black and Cerise Starlight Leeches- articulated. Catch anything from catfish to coho.
10- Muddlers and Spuddlers sizes 6-10 some articulated. I put the articulated ones in, just in case someone will want to use them for a waker for summer runs. They still work great damp for browns in the fall.
2-Purple maroubou Showgirls (for you Henrys Lake dredgers), barbel eye, articulated...also toss them for steelhead if you like.
4-Conehead black/purple, black/cerise x-cut leech
2- Conehead yellow, brown, black leech, x-cut and marabou, sculpin, general streamer looking thingies that browns seem to love. One with obnoxious rubber legs.
2- Conehead burnt orange and brown x-cut rabbit/ marabou leeches that work good in the Green and other mid-sized western rivers.
5-Night Leeches. Mainly black, 3 with large orange beads (basically a egg sucking bugger, pretty basic), one huDge articulated black/turquoise barbel eye pattern I use on everywhere from desert lakes to AK at dark, an finally my last zonker style, v-rib body, jiggly barbel eyed night dredger...in full disclosure I used this one two weeks ago...It has good karma attached although one jiggle eye is missing. Don't have anymore V-rib at this time, so this one goes with good clean fixfax history attached.
1-brown/epoxy head slider, with white bucktail, white body, and orange throat...works killer for a little darter/sculpin pattern in rivers. I actually took this from a pattern I saw in West Virginia, morphed it into what I thought would work well in the west. This pattern has worked well, especially as a trailer, when you feel adventurous enough to sling two large streamers at once. Instructions for this method do mention "chinstrap required".
I tried to put together a representation of the most productive patterns I tied last winter. Even though my Dad used to rag on me to tie at least a dozen of each pattern at once (and don't ever take the scissors out of hand)I don't have the patience to sit and tie a dozen at a time. Thus I get a hodge-podge of whatever I feel works best and I'm going to need in the next few months. This bunch represents just that.
One thing I have learned is how good a fly looks to you and how good it looks to a fish can be two totally different perspectives. I'm probably not going to trim my tales and hackle to be exactly the same on each fly, etc. ;)
72Twenty, not so much for the swap, just a general trout fly tying rule, make sure you dont leave your tails too long.
you;ll know if you do because you will feel lots of hits and miss the sets. that means the fish are coming away with a mouth full of marabou when they hit your fly and miss the hook.
So, what's the deal Yeti?....are we each tying all of the same pattern or mixing it up? I'm in for whatever.
Yeah, I was thinking about that. I just bought some longer hooks this evening (and a Dr. Slick whip finisher). I'll more or less follow the hook shank length rule. ;)Quote:

I got your pm Yeti and I have the first 14 done, which were the parachute BWOs. It's amazing how the small flies take so much more time than a big 'ol streamer. Just more inticate/delicate work.
I mailed
*7 - size 14, Black, bead head, gold ribbed hares ears.
*7 - size 18, emergers.
*7 - size 18, parachute, blue winged olives.
*7 - pheasant tails of various sizes and styles.
and a fiver today.
Thanks to everyone for starting this, contributing and mostly to Yeti for handling the sorting and org, these things have a way of taking on a life of their own behind the scenes.
Shit - when is the "deadline"? I've been busy this week and we are visiting the inlaws this weekend. Can I finish 'em up mid next week?

I worked the tying bench for an hour this morning... headed up north tomorrow for some wild trout. I plan to do some quality-control testing for you on the streamer I'm tying. Report to follow.
Halfway through tying some size 14 red tungsten bead head brassie's. Like crystal meth for trout.
Jimmy! Good work man. I'm making the wood river classic tungsten bead zebra. Can't beat that fly in about 90% of Western rivers.

tested out the pt's this weekend on 8 mile river, ct. i got two small browns and a brookie, my dad a small brown, a tiny native brown and a nice 15" rainbow.
PASS!
BTW - Friday is the 30th, not the 28th. ;)

Sending mine out today, Priority Mail, as it may take a little longer to get to Yeti from AK. 14 smallish (forgot size) parachute BWOs and 14 bead head buggers. I couldn't find the hooks I needed for the original fly I intended to tie so I opted for a multi-green sz 4 bead head bugger. Sorry if anyone else tied something similar but they work well on the bows out here!
Sending mine today, (a bit late but they should get there), 14 JJ's and 14 bullhead sculpins.
Mine went out today 28 #8 unweighted "snot rockets" - trout like to eat them just like kids.
Mine will be out soon too, tomorrow, I hope.

I guess we aren't using the same calendar. Basically I look at the sun at the time it feels about like noon, then count how many degrees above the horizon it is, and how hot it is, and then just make up a month-name and date.Quote:

Yes, Lumpy wins the promptness award for first flies received. (And mighty impressive they are, I might add!) So far I've received four sets. I can provide an updated list of who's sent what tomorrow, but right now I (think I*) have submissions from:
- Lumpy
- Kokomas
- someone in Homer, AK
- someone in Anchorage
* asterisk because there's a good chance I'm making up the list of flies I've received, just like I made up "Friday May 28th"

WTF?? I mailed mine on the morning of the 20th, you'd think the USPS could get a small package delivered a bit quicker. Let me know if it isn't there in the next couple of days. The middle of Wyoming isn't that damn remote.

I dug out some of my old tying stuff ...Whipped up some Hex nymps for the coming hatch.
Hell, I was using them for small mouth over the weekend.
