In order to ride, what do you do for work during Winter?

I worked on the hill last winter, and logged somewhere between 120-135 days, and my position requires a lot of freeskiing. In the summer I work for a camp that runs houseboats and ski boats. I spend 5 hours a day behind the wheel of a brand new ski boat. I live for free on the houseboat and every meal is paid for, never have to drive anywhere so, practically no expenses. Which is good because I make practically nothing. I'm now looking at either doing the same on-hill job, or taking an office job for the mountain (which would cut into my ski time quite a bit, but pay way more.)

Why no pole option for "no work???" Me I'm planning on sponging off Mntlion all winter... I'll just convince his boss he wants to work 5 nights a week... but the biggest problem for me is that I'm stuck in Lecture Hall Hell a long way from the mountain for the next 4 years... boo hoo, then Mntlion can sponge off me and quite his job.

But at least you are not 8 hours away and gone 2 months at a time, 90 minutes and 4 days a week is better.

Thats what you said about you becoming a heli ski guide (see my post above for how THAT worked out)

I'm less than 30 minutes from my front door to the lifts. I have a flexible schedule that only requires to get in 40 hours a week while being generally available for call-out OT (OT pays for everything skiing and mt. biking), I work a 4/10 shift and I earn, at the minimum, 26 hours of leave every month. I also can take my OT as time and half off. Three day weekends make for no crowd skiing.

My co-workers are all big time hunters and use weeks of vacation during the early fall - so when I bag work on big snow days no one flicks me crap.

I'd drop this gig in a heartbeat to work on the mountain if I could make it work financially.
