Best credit card?

I have a Wells Fargo platinum card that only pays 1 point per dollar but waives currency conversion fees when I use it overseas. Points redeemable for air travel--any airline, any seat, or 1$ cash.
Another advantage of the Wells Fargo is the picture of the stagecoach, which seems to impress some French shop clerks--I guess they think we still have cowboys and indians here.
If you do a lot of European travel you also might consider GlobeTrek Visa, offered by Andrews Federal Credit Union, which is a no fee chip and pin cards. Depending on the country some retailers--usually small ones--won't take American magnetic strip cards that require a signature on the receipt.

Airline miles are a game I have never been able to play well. I dont fly a lot, and when I do, I need specific flights to oddball destinations, leaving from small Colorado airports with limited airline choices. So I am skeptical about the airline miles, but hearing about you all flying to Europe/New Zealand/Hawaii for free sounds good for sure. Make it simple and I'd be there in a hurry.

I checked out ThePointsGuy and FlyerTalk, and it was all a bit beyond my non-frequently-flying understanding.

Right now I get 1% cash back on everything from my USAA Platinum, so that's my baseline for rewards. They do charge a foreign transaction fee though.

Whats the best thing going right now?

The only card that really fits your bill is the no-fee Capital One Venture card. 1 point per dollar, redeemed as statement credit toward flights purchased with the card.

If you spend a bit more time at FlyerTalk or read some of the BoardinArea.com blogs, you can get a better understanding of how people fly to exotic destinations for free. It's not hard, but it requires some focus and effort.

My wife and I leave for Spain and Switzerland on Tuesday. Between racking up bonuses and hacking Priceline, we're in under $1200 for flights and hotels for 12 nights.

Shouldn't it be called "least worst credit card?" It's kinda like asking what the best root canal is. It's really a lose-lose.

At any rate, I second the REI Visa. Or anything that has a decent interest rate (besides only on balance transfers, :rolleyes2 ) gives you a rebate based on how much you spend with it, doesn't charge you a maintenance fee, and doesn't have two-cycle billing.

I get free money for things that I have to buy anyways, paid by people who can't manage their finances well enough to avoid carrying a balance on my cards. Tell me why that is a bad thing?

An airline rewards card for the airline you fly most frequently, or Amex.

I have the chase sapphire preferred. You earn 40000 miles for signing up if you spend 3k within 3 months, and the miles are transferrable to united, british Airways, southwest, and one other airline I can't think of at the moment. Double points on dining out and air travel, and no foreign transaction fee. Only problem with the card is $95 annual fee, but I always call them up and threaten to cancel my card and they usually cover my fee, if not they at least give me a discount.

I am a huge fan of the US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards card... I pay it in full so not too worried about the interest rate. I swipe it for EVERYTHING. 2x on cell phone bill, 2x on travel, and 2x on whatever category you spend the most on. You can redeem your points for cash but it isn't worth it... best route is to use it for travel... it books you through travelocity so you can use any airline. 20k points get you a $400 plane ticket, 30k points get you a $600 ticket and so one... every 10k is $200 which is double any other rewards I ever saw from AMEX or Chase Freedom.

There is a $49 fee... unless you spend $24k in a year.

When I signed up, they gave me 17,500 points... a month or 2 later, I had a $400 plane ticket waiting for me...

unless you live somewhere that has only one airline go with a card that gives you miles on any airline, any flight, anytime (or cash). Airline specific cards limit your flight options, if you can find an elgible seat at all.

Anyone have experience with creditcard(s).com? Effective/good?

For any active military--my son in the AF just got a couple of Amex cards for free--excellent rewards and allows him to get a card that gives him use of airport first class lounges. He flies monthly these days so a pretty nice perk.
