Christ, I can't believe I'm the first one to get to this one.
I'll be giving up hookers and blow. Sheesh. You guys are slow today.
Some things are sacred. Please turn in your identification card and board name on the way out.Quote:

and no way in hell are hookers and blow being given up.......... I would sell a kidney first, what's the going rate these days?
5$ ? that would be 4,1...euros for 4 liters ?
considering that im paying 5,5 ( yes that's about 7$) euros for the same amount right now i'd give up lamenting about the good old times when gas was 1 euro a liter. :p
Subtle Plauge : I'm paying 5.7 :( And that's the cheapest near by.

I'm really happy I don't have my car here in NL... So for not using the car the whole spring (mid Jan onwards), I have saved a big bucket of €€€... And somehow I'm still broke :cussing:
damn i really looked up "plauge" via dict.leo ready to weather any sophisticated joke coming from the british isles :DQuote:

Haha! My mistake! You shouldn't have told me that, though - I'm going to be putting in devious mis-spellings in all my posts now ;) If the sun comes out I'm gonna start cycling to school - I refuse to go back to catching that damned train ;)

For better or worse, I just received the following email, I'm not really a proponent of such mass emailings, but, make up your own mind (and maybe mine)....and if you can set yourself up for cycling to work most days of the week you'll reap more benefits than saving money.
Subject: Fwd: GAS WAR
GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work
This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola
executive It came from one of his engineer buddies
who retired from Halliburton. It's worth your
consideration.
Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to
hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might
go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We
need to take some intelligent, united action.
Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes
MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain
day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
The oil companies just laughed at that because they
knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by
refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience
to us than it was a problem for them BUT, whoever
thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read on and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at
about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently
$2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the
oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at
$1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to
teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not
sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each
day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we
are going to see the price of gas come down is if we
hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their
gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How?
Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop
buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if
we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T
purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies
(which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not
selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their
prices. If they reduce their prices, the other
companies will have to follow suit. But to have an
impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon
and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now,
don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and
I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of
people!!
I am sending this note to over 30 people. If each of us
send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and
those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =
3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches
the sixth group of people, we will have reached over
THREE MILLION consumers.
If those three million get excited and pass this on to
ten friends each, then 30 million people will have
been contacted! If it goes one level further, you
guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.
That's all!
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million
and all you have to do is send this to 10 people....
Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician.
But I am . so trust me on this one.) :-)
How long would all that take? If each of us sends
this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of
receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be
contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you
didn't think you and I had that much potential, did
you! Acting together we can make a difference.
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message
on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL
THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP
THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

Just carpool with your bros. Me and my friend got jobs at the same place this summer so we can pool to work, then head out to the mountains to ride/hike etc or to the lake to sail. Minimize the mileage.
Yeah, that's what I suspected when I read the original post.Quote:

edge, that was a pretty quick find to refute that email...thanks.
Which brings me back to....
Get your bicycles out
I am going to give up on 90 percent of my commuting in town. To help with that I am purchasing a Marin Hawks Hill SE MTB with rack and Paniers.
I'm giving up going to work to save on gas.
Sadly I gave up my car to afford gas..... Not to mention it was a Civic that did pretty damn good on gas. Probably spend just as much on more food required to feed my self when I try and drag my fatass up hills on my Roadie, but at least there's no insurance and bikes are cheap to fix. Plus the chicks dig it..... Trying to find a tandem to take my date to our school's formal next week (I don't know what more depressing, the fact that I thought about riding a bike to formal, or the fact I go to a college with a "formal'). Yup. When some people look at me ride by they point and say "I garantee that guys still a virgin. " Touche my friend, Touche.
But at least I don't waste my money on gas, or girls. The moral of the story. Give up your car and not only will you save money on gas, you'll save money from the lack of dates, the biggest expenditure of most guy at my school.
 soon I'll just AK Powder Monkey for advice.
I said this in a previous thread recently....quit your bitching, high oil prices are a blessing in disguise. As the price rises so does energy conservation (or at least awareness) and alternative energy investment.
Oil and gas in the western world has been far too cheap for too long anyway; the cheap oil party is over, face reality and start conserving.
Carpool, move closer to work, sell your V8 SUV....
very well thought out plan, i can make more money and have a better time partyn it up with friends over the summer back east then return for the winter back out here. Plus the skis were zero overhead, essentially won through competitions.Quote:

Let the shit go to $5. If the oil industry wasn't heavily subsidized, that's what it would cost.
I should do that too! :rolleyes:Quote:
