This shot astounds me. I was in the Vallee Blanche the week before and there was A LOT more snow in the couloir poubelle then. It just shows how damaging the dreaded Foen wind was. Our guide told us it was hot and dry which serves to literally scour the snow off the high areas. Bummer.

Bloody excellent trip report (sorry for the British inflection there;) ). I love the place and I spotted the little couloir I described in my TR (http://tetongravity.com/forums/showt...nix+experience) in one of your pics. Thanks for that!

Well said! Instead of feeling depressed about the horrendous snow situation documented here, I found a bit of pride welling up of the place I've chosen to live.

And fear not, snow-forecast.com says it's going to DUMP - total of 8cm in the next three days. Wait I'll translate into American - that's like 3 inches! We haven't had that kind of snow since... (checks the journel) January 18th! Pow days here we come!

I said it before but it was really cool to meet all you maggots. Hope you can make it back over here and if I'm still here, beer's on me.

see 666, now you know why i'll never shut up about my trip over there 5 years ago...it's epic. you got to see more of the scenery though, when i was there it snowed 6 days straight...so we got great pow, but didn't see anything until the final day when it cleared up for us to ski the vallee blanche. and we were some of those unroped gapers going down from the aiguille de midi.

Thanks for a great TR and the reminder why I MUST get back to Chamonix!

Yeah, good times were had indeed. The only problem is that place ruined me. Ruined me in the sense that everything will now seem so small in comparison.

What I got out of the trip?...Str8line told me to use my poles more and to not lean into my turns. He also said I had nice legs....which is a little wierd since he's married with kids.

Indeed. Poles are for planting not waving. You've got a dick for that.

Also...(how quickly they forget :nonono2: )

-Weight your outside ski more(goes with not leaning in)

-Eliminate your upper body steering. i.e.-no shoulder thrust to initiate the turn, less rotation of your upper body.

Also...

-Eliminate the "arms wrapped around a basket" arm position. Save that for cuddling with Hayduke.

Also...

Stand up a little more-let your skeleton do the work when hunkered down stability is not needed to keep your composure.

Then...

Enter freeskiing comps and do really well since you are definitely one of the if not the strongest skier to ever attend one of my camps.
