Now, these residents of the wild wild west are probably transplants, so to speak, and they should know better. But you moved out there for a reason, I'm sure. And a major factor may be this shit. I know it's been good out there, I spend way too much time here finding out. It really sucks here. Really, really, sucks. On an historical level. It was setting up nice before Xmas, with a few stutters, but going into the Holiday week looked real good. They were even saying it would be cold and snowy during the week, and then God, the same God who took our foliage season from us, got, you know, what...is.......the.......term........absent, maybe?
It rained all Xmas night. I mean, really hard. And as said above, has rained a lot since then. It poured last night. And it's been really warm. At this time of the year, most, if not all lakes, are totally frozen over, so frozen, that the locals can drive out on them on their large personal trucks, drink beer, and drive back. All I saw today was water with really stupid people walking on thin ice next to it.
The worst year I have seen in Vermont was '94, when KMart was down to 5-10 reported trails in mid January. But I had great timing then. I was in Utah and Jackson enjoying the finest powder of my life. Not so now. But that turned the corner at the end of January, and turned into a normal late Feb. and March, sort of. But it's 2-5 as I type, and I don't see a forecast that tells me i'll see a big storm before Sunday. That's 2-12. And then there's Prezidents week, which presents blackouts, dangerous crowds, and the end to snowmaking, no matter what. I just saw a video on the local news from Gore today from an event, and it's almost mud. And that place makes snow like only a state agency with tons of tax dollars can. March may be good, as it usually is, but the trees are pretty much empty - I challenge anybody to tell me different. I saw shit in the woods TWO WEEKS ago that looked good, but almost killed me when I tried to rip. Now?......c'mon.
So don't preach fom Bozeman or Denver or anywhere else. This is painful.
