You're so stuck on thinking I'm a cunt that you're missing that we're saying the same thing and that I think we should expand it. Medicare runs on a different reimbursement schedule than other public employee schedules. The feds pump tons off subsidy into the private insurance market that could be redirected into a single payer system. I'm saying Medicare for all is the only feasible fix at this point but doubt it will happen. It would also make healthcare systems not much of a target for PE money.
This is not me, and I don't know if PE is involved here, but I don't think this is an unusual experience these days for a lot of folks.
I recently met with a PCP for the first time and was shocked when the bill came 2 weeks later. It was a basic appt lasting about 30 minutes where I needed to refill a prescription and asked some questions about frequent bloating. I have a high deductible plan, so I paid for the total cost out of pocket. After calling into UCSD Health to confirm what was included in the $865, they said that was how much a regular Doctors appt cost.
Another bill I had was $2000 for regular blood work. Fortunately, insurance kicked in and paid most of it, but my portion was another $825.

South Park totally nailed it with this song "Navigating the American Healthcare System" from their latest episode:

Thought you'd appreciate that. Our system is so FUBAR. And just like they point out in the episode, they are ALL in cahoots with each other.

^^^ Pretty ironing.
A bunch of investors (read Boomers) who want a good ROI buy a bunch of nursing homes and slash the costs by reducing care levels, thereby fucking over themselves and other boomers.
hear a few anecdotes recently that made me think of this thread
An ER nurse at a hospital that doesn't have health insurance (her employer doesn't offer it)
Another nurse that has health insurance from his employer but the hospital he works at is out of network for his insurance
And Kaiser, which is a 503 tax exempt non profit, had a revenue of 70 billion in 2022, and their CEO made 13.8 million in compensation, with executive compensation totaling 81 million dollars

Things proceeding according to plan.
Ehrlichman: “Edgar Kaiser is running his Permanente deal for profit. And the reason that he can … the reason he can do it … I had Edgar Kaiser come in … talk to me about this and I went into it in some depth. All the incentives are toward less medical care, because …”

FTC has been attempting to regulate, though lost in court recently to stop a Texas roll-up of anesthesia providers.
I'd bet the FTC will continue with this (unless the November election changes it up) all the same.
Possibly a few successful regulatory actions (state or federal) and you'd chill the activity - it'll never go away, but it can be tamped down until memories dim.
