Hardline is more interesting.
It too is becoming more like Fest Series event with giant air prioritized over racing down gnarly terrain. But at least it’s bikes doing cool bike shit in a reasonable amount of time that’s fun to watch and the final score feels fair (except for last year when Bernard got an extra week of practice)

I dunno, for all its faults, I still like rampage over hardline. Hardline is everyone riding the same course, supposedly racing, but really only like 8 guys are actually trying to put in a good race run. So it's mostly just watching everyone ride the same line. Which is certainly entertaining, because the line is ridiculous.Quote:

In Hardline, I do miss the other tech portions that have been brought out of that race, but get that big/fast airs are MUCH more translateable than the tech gnar.
In Rampage, as I've said a few times, the chutes should be scored higher, but I'm coming from an oldschool ifsa ski scoring angle.
Linescore being a more major component.
I sort of agree, but I also think that pretty much all the riders at rampage are so good, pretty much any of them could ride any (ridable) chute that got built. So the super gnarly chutes end up losing a ton of vert really quickly, but without any real opportunity to differentiate the rider from the rest of the field.Quote:

It's odd, to me the giant airs are completely unrelatable (I can't jump for shit on the bike) so they all look the same and have an almost fake video-game vibe that doesn't impress me all that much. It's just way to wild to comprehend so it doesn't speak to me at all. The chutes otoh are something I can understand, having ridden steep committing stuff before (including in that zone). The fear of standing on top of something steep and exposed and dropping in is much more relatable due to experience so I end up getting more excited about the raw techy lines. When Semenuk started his run I thought the drop was not that impressive (cause he made it look as easy as I make getting on my bike in the parking lot) but the second his wheels touched the ground and he reached terminal velocity skipping across the dirt and getting all wild I was up shouting at the TV.Quote:

The super skinny gap up top is gnarly AF.
I mean, it's all gnarly AF, but that one's a bit different than the normal huge drop to huge jump kind of thing.
I have to think there's at least a 50% chance it will be too windy on the afternoon of finals for the Simon/Brendo spine gap to go. It usually whipping up there.

Went to find the video, it is all over already. That was a HEAVY landing. Looks like he went just barely too far, which is way too far with that big of a drop and that sort of transition out of the landing zone.

Rampage jumped the shark for me years ago.
Got no interest in tuning into an event where people are breaking themselves every year. Watched the crash video and agree there was never gunna be a positive outcome there. He nailed the trajectory and still looked like he landed flat.
While I’m on the topic of shitting on rampage, what kind of deal do they have worked out with BLM to be building this shit anyways? Used to think it was cool but now it just seems kind of privileged and lame to me. If it’s on private land that obviously changes things.
