Advantages of Esim for the Euro carrier is may not even have to visit a store to get a physical. While I have not done it, probably some allow you to do everything online- payment for the plan then the esim install possibly via chat and have it all ready when landed at the airport?
Since you are on Visible then they can do either physical or esim for the service, so if you have physical sim you either disable it in the settings. Probably blocked and no service message if by accident you do get it enabled by mistake.

E-sim is the way to go. Worked great for me in January. I used mobi-matter which was even cheaper than airolo and worked flawlessly. Voice calls thru whatsapp worked better than trying to use my US number
Edit: if your phone can use them I’m convinced e-sims are easier, cheaper and can cover vast regions so are better when moving across borders than old school physical sims
I'm going to have to try that e-sim next time, although since I use a cut rate no-contract phone plan because I'm cheap, it probably won't work somehow.

I had great luck with T mobile in Amsterdam last month. Service in Europe is included in my plan so no extra charges.
I got LTE other than 5G and you get 5 gigs of high speed data per month other than unlimited. Otherwise totally seamless.

I got a data only e-SIM, so do not plan on making any voice calls on it. But I have read that calls over WhatsApp will work. And my phone will route calls over wifi, so I assume that'll work too.
