y'all got something against mesmerism? ;)
I forgot about report post, sorry.
I, for one, welcome our new Indian spam overlords?
Boom
holy shit!
only 4 non-sticky real threads on the first page!
This is getting a little embarrassing. I'm a web developer by vocation, I'd be happy to pitch in here.
maybe TGR should find someone who lives on the other side of the world, and make them a mod, so that there's someone online in the wee hours who has power to nuke this stuff.
and tech talk
Hello disgruntled members,
We are seeking members for our new all-volunteer force, the Counter-Vashikarian Nuclear Spamlord Militia. Your responsibilities will involved dive bombing Indian love spam from your smart telephone or desktop device. Strong preference for those in Eastern or European timezones. Benefits include a free hat and heli time.
PM me to apply, but expect your bravery and courage to be tested vigorously throughout the application process.
Yours,
Ryan
Chief Jong, Counter-Vashikarian Nuclear Spamlord Militia
How about you just fix the fucking problem instead of kicking the can down the road with another shitty joke.
I can fix this in 5 fucking minutes. You web guy must be a goddamm shit show. Give me money (or bacon) and access to the forum's source code and I'll have it fixed by the end of the day.
Most of these posts are going to be through proxies. By using whois, are you looking to detect their ISP or location? We could block huge swaths of IP ranges in attempts to filter out proxies or certain countries, but that will likely include ham posters as well.
The only way I could see this working is if we would moderate posts that exceed a certain %age of non-standard characters. Take this title for example: "ℂaℓℓ ℊiℛℒ SeRvIcE ❤ ☎ 5555555555❤ Esℭℴℛt Sℰℛviℭℰ In Delhi,". Most of those keywords are mixed in with special characters, and they will simply replace similar characters until they get past the keyword filter.
We are pretty sure that the spam accounts are not coming from bots. The reasoning is that the registration form is not through vBulletin. User registrations are handled by a separate CMS. So the bots would have to know to submit the registration request through one system and login to the other.
