Why not just order it when you order inserts from BF.com?

I don't use inserts to save "a few $ on bindings". With inserts I can tour on any of the skis in my collection. With inserts, I can pack my ski bag more efficiently when taking more than one set of skis. On my first installation, I did have an insert turn back out on me mainly because I didn't follow the recommendation to degrease them before installation. Since then I have followed the directions and had no problems. It looks like Jondrums is shipping the new inserts passivated to help with the epoxy bond?

There are many good reasons to use inserts. Even saving on bindings is a fine reason. Sure, they have their limitations, and I totally respect the OPs stance and complaints with the product. But to say they're "pointless" without a well-argued point is inane. And you know what they say about stupidity:

Ya, there are definitely some downsides but they definitely have an important place. I don't really get why somebody who doesn't need inserts would even bother posting in this thread? I guess that's how you get to 18,000 posts. I think condoms are stupid but clearly in Hugh's parent's case they would have been a good idea.

Explain how? Enlighten me because I am genuinely curious. Selection of ski gear has never been bigger. There are more ski companies producing more models of skis, bindings and accessories than ever before. I find it ironic that you are arguing in support of "choice" while degrading other people's freedom to exercise a choice other than your own.

I've decided to switch over from inserts to sollyfit plates. Mainly because I find the plates so much quicker and easier to install and they don't destroy re-sale value. Ive never had an issue with inserts coming out but IMO swapping bindings is easier and less stressful on a plate where all holes are perfectly plumb and you dont need to be concerned about a spinner. Plus I've been working on slimming my quiver down to 2-3 skis so I can afford not to use inserts.

Global warming and the lack of snowfall isn't due to inserts being produced, sold and utilized... Vote no to inserts by not buying them... let the rest of us fkn decide for ourselves

Oops...I just realized that Hugh Conway is 'that guy' that every forum has. I never paid much attention to his posts until today and it looks like I was on the right track.

One of my primary uses for inserts is to make traveling with skis easier.

With most ski bags you can squeeze maybe one or two pairs and no guarantee that the baggage handlers aren't going to smash your bindings.

With inserts you can spoon multiple pairs of skis in a single ski bag, wrap them in blankets/towels and put the bindings in your other luggage.

I just what to be recorded in this important thread.

I don't have inserts, never will have inserts, but respect those that have inserts. I have my reason for not liking inserts but I'm not telling what it is in case Auvgeek tries to humiliate me.

You have to be very careful how deep you drill kittens.

Then be sure to keep them clamped for 24 hours for epoxy to cure.

Yes, for me this is huge. I can still do it with plates, but you get even more room with inserts.

Hey, for the record, I'm genuinely curious why you don't like them. I just don't like blanket assessments that they're "pointless" with no argument to back it up. Personally, I don't like them on some of my skis because changing bindings can be a genuine PITA. And I'm generally running late, and I often forget to change my bindings until I try to grab a pair of skis in the morning.

So I thought the newest version of Jon's inserts came "de-greased"? Is that not the case? From all the talk here it seems like you automatically have to de-grease them.

You probably should as a precaution, but I have definitely installed inserts without degreasing, and I haven't had one come back out, even after 150+ days of 6 hour work abuse.

Side story... I recently moved. I have a really cool desk but it's been disassembled at least five times. Most of the mounting holes were giving up. Thanks to TGR talk around inserts and wood, my desk is "bomber" and I can "huck" if from my balcony to the ground.
