This is a common problem; posting in the wrong forum. Instead of The Padded Room of Teton Gravity Research, maybe this should be posted in the big fat old emasculated white guy driving a "rig" thread in the Eastern Washington Rednecks forum.

Oh wait, my local "Bulletin Board" internet forum is exactly that. I will post the question in that forum and see the responses I get. I'll post later with the replies.

It is one of the stupidest moves in driving. In other countries, deaths from cars passing like that on mountainous roads is common. Only fuck-tards in a civilized society think that is a thrill, taking lives into your hands for your personal thrill.

You making a thread about your inability to understand subtle communication (flashing of lights) from the rest of the world as they try to warn you of your apparent stupidity while driving, however, proves just how funny this thread is, thanks!:nonono2:

So you're one of the people that does this or you know what it means when someone flashes their headlights after they've been legally passed? Please professor driver instructor, tell us, because no one else in this thread has been able to.

When someone flashes their lights at you when you've just passed them it means "hey fuck you". They're probably dumbfuck roadhog DasBlunts (or you just pulled a jackass move like passing a line of cars when you weren't sure there was room to get it done and somebody shows up going the other way and you almost get everyone killed like you describe above) but that's what they're saying. /thread

And "almost get everyone killed" is a bit of an exaggeration. Come on now, anyone who drives and has passed someone has had something like that happen - you have plenty of room to make a pass, it's a marked passing zone and there's no oncoming traffic as you begin the pass but a car shows up before you've completed it. At that moment when the other car appears you have to make an assessment of which of your options is best, and as long as you understand that you have options and how to act on them, no one will die, there will be no crash. Ideally you'll have plenty of time to complete the pass, but there's no denying the appearance of the unexpected car makes you reassess the situation and triggers a bit of an adrenaline surge, especially when you're really hauling past a line of cars.

Exactly. Seeing that car on the horizon just gives my brain the excuse to tell my right foot, "Warp 10, Mr. Sulu." Love having a V-8 and a stick, dropping that sucker down into 3rd and ROARING past the convoy of RVs, trucks, and slow-pokes. It's plenty safe if you go for it. If you're hesitant and passing like a granny, then THAT'S dangerous.

"Almost get everyone killed" was merely hyperbole to make then point. Obviously I wasn't there. But "hey fuck you" is exactly what they are saying with those flashes, whether you deserve it or not.

-My car in high school, so sweet when I had all 1600cc's fully torqued!

Some motorcycles had/have a button that rapidly flashes the headlight for passing. Mostly just to make you more visible I think. Older GSXR's had this, not sure if the newer ones do.
