Neither does a helmet.

Ok, so I should wear a helmet whenver skiing... I get that...
How about a spine protector / full body armor? I hear broken backs suck as well... and getting hit by an out of control gaper in the liftline is also pretty likely to affect my spine isn't it?
Also, in the backcountry is it irresponsible for me to go out and endanger my partner by not wearing full impact armor?
I always wear one. It definitely makes me safer, and does not bother me. If you want to wear one, go for it. If you don't, your choice. It's your life, not mine.
The unannounced safety bar is annoying. I get hit a couple of times a season. So is the jackoff with his headphones on who can't hear someone asking to lower the bar. These idiots remind me of the morons on the road talking on their cellphones who get mad when they get honked at and flipped off for veering into the other lane. Pay attention to your fucking surroundings, it really is not all that hard. I am not a fan of either group of people. If you are not paying enough attention to hear someone say "do you mind if I lower the bar" several times at a reasonable volume, you are an idiot.
