Well my plan is to flip this bimmer. I will bring it to top mechanical conditions, and fix the torn drivers seat and cracked dash. I'll drive it a few thousand miles and then it will hit the block. I only bought it because it seemed like too good a deal, and I was the first person to go see it.
I have too many cars already.
That beamer convertible is really sweet.
You can buy a 996 turbo in the $40's right now. Possibly even cheaper with the recent market decline, which has somehow managed to completely miss my preferred spec. Just saw a '91 964C4 coupe with 109k miles listed for $68,000.Quote:

They are rare, only imported to the us for a few years as the mk1 1999-2001 was a non-US car. RUF did import ~27 GT3-engine RGTs in the Mk1 style though, and I've seen a few below 60k. Nah, it's a ring that sits on the pressure plate. Not installed yet.
The outer edge of the flywheel has some set screws sticking out of it that trigger speed and engine position reference sensors.

I didn't realize when we met how few 1989+ 944 turbos there are. They had a nice power increase in 1989 and it looks like the appreciation you've noted has them between 15-20k for a clean turbo. Some low mile turbo S cars are being offered for much more.
Read about the euro 968s this past weekend- pretty cool stuff. 350hp 968 RS sold for something like $250k iirc. Cool slice of pcar history.
Yeah, mine is not low miles, but it runs well. Has a couple dash cracks, but paint looks pretty good. And you saw how it goes... And that was with boost at like 13 or 14psi, can be turned up to around 16 or 17 with the current setup.

The 944 turbo of the time outperformed the 911 turbo in every way except straight line (by design, can't have the cheaper car be faster).

I think there's even less 928s around than that. Ever since the Top Gear Argentina episode I've been kinda obsessed with seeing if there's a good unmolested manual 928, preferably S or GTS from the later years around. Unobtanium for what was a kinda un-loved pcar.Quote:

I broke the driver side door handle on the 996, satisfying the weekly requirement of 1 minor fix. $8 oem replacement spring ftw. Getting a hand held fabspeed ECU tuner in the next week or so. I think the main benefit is to smooth the mid-rpm lull in hp/tq. If it's worthwhile I'd be happy to let you borrow it bmills.

I too think the 944 has aged really well. There's just something about that 928 that I like. It's probably just nostalgia but who knows.
Finally got around to buying proper oil in bulk. Been using decent stuff (Motul) but the DT40 is perfect as a road oil for Boxsters/911s from 99-08. It may even be the same for 09+ DFI engines but I'm not up to speed on them.
For track days they have XP9, a low mile blend for extreme temperatures you get at the track with the high compression, n/a flat 6s, BMWs, etc.
@bmills- your pcars would love it, Jake may have already pointed you in this direction.

Thanks! I've actually been running the DT40 for nearly a year now since a master mechanic at a PCA event turned me on to it. No issues at all and I have to say (strictly from a 'feel' standpoint) it seems like it runs just a bit smoother, and warms up a bit quicker. I could be crazy and it could be a placebo effect but I'm happy and so are the cars.
