The Museum of Broken Relationships, great title for a great song by a great band.
QMS: sorry if I’ve told this story before.
Sometime in the 60s I was visiting a friend in Mill Valley, and she took me out to the Marin County Art Festival. Think we paid a couple bucks to get in. There was a local all-girl band playing on a small stage with maybe 50 people watching.
Turns out these were all girlfriends/wives of Quicksilver band members. At the end of their set, they invited the boys up to the stage. They launched into a long number that I wasn’t familiar with, but I was digging it. I thought they were just jamming when at one point they all stopped playing simultaneously on the same beat, held it for a second or two, and then continued on.
Not sure why that impressed me, but it did. It was the cheapest I’ve paid to listen to a major band live, not counting the time I heard Led Zeppelin play on an outdoor stage from a passing car.
An out-of-left-field trip down memory lane
My second date with Ms TBS was at the Jambalaya in The People’s Republic of Arcata CA. Meadow Skipper may remember The Jam
Freddy and the Starliners was the house band. This was recorded there.
Morning after this date I went straight to work from her place. Six weeks later we were living together
