[fingerscrossed]Hopefully that precip comes with colder temps, as well[/fingerscrossed]

I'm surprised you got wet at all, as I noticed this protective dome over the peak you were most likely on top of yesterday,

Fun times to be had, especially when you have lots of quiver overlap. Just sayin'.
Dood. You got overlap.
Snowbyrd is practicing persistent pessimism this year to avoid the massive disappointment of last year when she tried half full glass thinking.
Just a quick note to thank the collective for thier input a few pages back. Had a nice day at boreal 12/10 (only thing else open I could get to was squaw couldn't justify extra $). Boreal-San Fran airport easy 4hrs tops. If I'da known/thought to ask I'd avoid downtown on the rerun, the wait for the Oakland bay bridge toll was a bitch (6:30 PM-ish.)
cheers! MT
I had a blast lapping Cornice Chair at Kirkwood on Saturday...absolute ideal snow for hucking and it was sticking to everything. I was completely soaked by 1pm but still...it was pretty damn fun.

Ideal for hucking and straight lines. And pillows even. I hit one of my favorite features in wagon wheel and was able to make the three drop hit mostly because the mank slowed me down enough to keep some poise. Loved it. Although, I would have much preferred a lighter substrate.
Hoping for a Christmas miracle right now.
I must disagree with this. The really low elevation stuff is OK at best (if you like mud), but go up at all and you'll find more snow than I prefer to ride on. YMMV, of course.

if you need any more evidence of how this winter has favored the crest over points east.
kirkwood - 100% open. 2,300 of 2,300 acres
heavenly - .08% open. 68 of 4,800 acres (edit-ooops, that should be 1.4%)
holy crap.
If you need any more evidence of how this winter has favored the California Cascades over the Sierra ...

Kirkwood is 100% open? On Sunday the backside wasn't. But yeah, I was shocked driving past Heavenly at just how bone dry it is. [EDIT: looks like they just opened the back this morning]
Re: sticky snow for drops - interesting that you guys like it. It always kind of freaks me out, especially if the landing isn't steep. Went off the center of that rock at the top of the gully under Chair 10 and I was happy to ski away with both of my knees. Granted, by Sunday I'm sure the snow was in worse shape than Saturday.
Here's what I encountered at Kirkwood on last Saturday...

Just cruised over donner in the wind... That warm spell really changed the scenery.
NWS reporting thundersnow with lightning strikes in the Rose area. Their streaming cams are looking good right now.
You know, they have a whole lot of terrain just skiers left (or right) of there. You are permitted to traverse a little bit if you like. You know, for next time.
Did you see any other tracks then you own on upper ooops? I think you have more love than anyone for that zone.
Snowing presently.
Dust on crust and frigid high pressure, Thanks Santa, it's just what I wanted!
in Truckee this am a screaming inch of fresh on the deck. but the sun is out...
the snowblower is all snug in the garage, again
i guess dust on crust is better than no dust at all, think of it as a shot glass- half full
Merry Christmas to all (as visions of pow danced in their heads)
New espresso bar at sugar bowl is awesome! The conditions are frozen, but I guess thats all the rage right now with the youngsters or something...
Ready for some Orange County surf tomorrow
Skied a couple hours at Alpine this morning. The new stuff on top was fun, but man, that ice below was gnasty. Fun in the trees under Hidden Knolls, where it had blown in nicely and few had ventured. Palisaides, by contrast, was a no-fall zone.
Wind was definitively transporting snow, with impressive wind drifts coming off the ridges today

Crap pic, but some fun wind buffed pow was out there.

Just had to pay attention to where the winds were blowing yesterday. ;)
Alpine was a blast today. They opened all the hikes (lookers right) for the first time this season. Definitely way less scratchy than the previously ridden stuff. The trees in-between Bernie's and Estelle were great, and the coverage down low for the exit was better than expected.
The winds were definitely blowing in the wrong direction today though, and the snow is now being blown up and over. Though it was doing a good job of smoothing out some stuff.
I'm planning on swinging by Tahoe next Sunday and staying for a few days, haven't been following conditions too much. I have a place to stay in Truckee but was planning on using at least one of the days at SaT on my Bridger pass, looking for a beer for floorspace type situation down south, reciprocation if you're ever in Bozeman of course. Alternately, good spots to spend the night in the back of the subie?
Also, any good deals on 2 for 1's or buying daypasses at the local quickie mart? Squaw, Alpine, and KW are all on the list but I'm trying to get as much skiing done on a college budget as possible.
Anyway, anyone interested in making some turns or showing a jong around? I'm planning on skiing the 4th-7th, SaT the 4th but beyond that I have no definite plans.
North Bowl via traversing the top of HW Face was sweet, until patrol got tired of roping people down the face and closed it.
