While I do not agree with or support threats from my countrymen to an individual citizen of the US visiting our country, I can understand why some might lash out in that way - I experienced the same vitriol from both political stripes when visiting the US after Canada said no to joining the invasion of Iraq.
You can argue amongst your countryman all you want about your personal politics and ineffective efforts made to avoid the current shitshow, but unless you meet the terms of persecution and qualify as a refugee seeking asylum, I will continue to regard you as a member citizen of a state that seeks to do harm to this country, and not feel empathetic when you whine about people not talking nice to you when discussing your country’s actions. Just like I recognize my personal responsibility for acknowledging my country’s treatment of Japanese Canadians during WW2, Sikh’s aboard the Komagata Maru, or the social and ecological devastation brought by Canadian mining companies to SA and Africa, not to mention ongoing efforts of reconciliation with our indigenous peoples for a multitude of past wrongs. I am a citizen of this country and its actions reflect on that citizenship to the rest of the world.
Don’t like that opinion, too bad.
