Skiing sucks here, went fishing yesterday instead. It was cold and my favorite lake is starting to freeze over. We managed to get 11 to the boat, tow truck trolling along the forming ice sheet. Took two of them home for my buddy’s Mother.
Trolling along the ice sheet produced a symphony of bells, a strange tinkling noise. I hope we get some snow soon and I can close the chapter on this season’s fishing. Although, the crowds and traffic have had me at least ponder the idea of ice fishing.

Don’t be this guy, two dudes who decided to drive 100 yards down from the road to be lakeside. I imagine the tow bill was quite large.

Roos, quit pissing in the river https://images2.imgbox.com/77/e2/Puw...?download=true
After a couple days away from the water, training to return to work :frown:, I had a pretty good afternoon out.
I started out with a double beaded stone/ hothead worm combo which caught a small one on the first cast, and after a few minutes more, this one:

Then, on a hunch I swapped out to a brown Pat's/hare's ear rig which caught all of the rest, all but a big whitefish took the hare's ear.

Sadly, stupid work will be getting in the way of fishing as much as I like, but today all was well.
Having nothing else I needed to do today, I made the half hour hike to what has been the best of the nearby places I frequent. Along the way I passed what I've dubbed the Sulfer Pond, a slow channel of the Clark Fork pooled up due to beaver dams, this muck bottomed pond smells of sulfer.

My first hookup was a strong and acrobatic fish, which left me disappointed by breaking off my hot head worm, however, I eventually found myself in a good mood, catching four other fish of around the same size in the next hour and a half; two rainbows, and two cuttbows. A great afternoon on the river!

In Shanghai for work this week. The river outside the hotel was lined with fishermen at all times. I’d never seen this type of roller setup before, but it allows them to fish light bobber rigs in current.
Gotta love it.

It was a slow afternoon on the river, and I only caught one whitefish in the first two and a half hours, but once I had decided to leave, I finally hooked a healthy rainbow, and then another whitefish as I worked my way back to the truck.

When I headed out the door to go fishing today, it was raining hard, so I went back inside...................and put on my most waterproof shell. I knew full well, that if I kept the faith and went forth anyway, in spite of a weather report promising rain and high winds, that I'd catch fish and have the opportunity to let loose with pent up emotions.
I made the hike to the spot that produced well on Sunday, and was soon landing the biggest fish of the day, a rainbow whose gill plate and stripe were orange.

A couple fat cutbows came along as I worked upstream.

Then I caught some rainbows.

I've got a week off in March when my wife and kids don't. I'm thinking about a bonefish or redfish trip. Any thoughts on choosing one over the other?
I've never fished for either species. I have fished for stripers on flats with fly tackle. I fucked up a lot and caught a few fish. It was awesome. Should have another chance next summer.
I'd also love recs for locations/ guides. I don't need fancy accommodations and prefer simple air travel from Denver. I do generally prefer fishing on foot to fishing in boats, but mostly I want to learn. I care more about learning than catching lots of fish or big fish.
Thanks.
Check it out. I gave the Trog so much painful truths type of shit that he edited his collection of Teton fail videos into a 2 hour recycle of fail highlights and reposted it just to spite me. Turns out he reads every comment on his channel searching for validation and he gets butthurt real easy. So visit, comment, hurt that butt and give him a thumbs down. Tell him the painful truth: he's an expert at doing sloppy seconds in a worn out hole. He's NEVER made first tracks of the season anywhere ever. He has practically zero understanding of freestone seasonality. Basically, he's a kook who routinely fails to get the goods and he calls it content. He HAS to hot spot. It's all he has to offer.

I understand being upset at one's favorite river being hotspotted (especially if it is otherwise out of the way and lightly trafficked), however, I don't get being upset at a simple minded clown for his lack of talent. Also, I don't get why you keep linking his videos, if indeed you don't want his hotspotting to adversely effect your fly fishing mecca. I mean, I was always curious about what river it was in which you caught all those hogs, but I didn't want to ask you, thinking it rude to ask someone to post their "secret" spots online. However, your campaign of denunciation for this clown prince of fly fishing has given me that info, as well as spread his fame, and income (assuming he's getting ad revenue through viewership) from doing what you don't like him doing.
Oh well, I suppose internet flaming is fun sometimes. Have at it.
I'm not upset at his level of talent. It's actually the best thing about his channel. Duderz is like the Inspector Clouseau of fly fishing. I want more people to see this. And take a big ol' shit on it. Let's do what we can to help him keep himself in this psychologically limited box he's built for himself. I think Roos noted somewhere that this guy's own sense of self righteousness and massive butthurt ego is what keeps him from really progressing. I agree. Ras, you're catching more big fish than this guy does here and the teton is vastly more fertile than where you fish. You're surpassing him in only three seasons with second hand gear.
I wouldn't be offended if you want to know what river I fish. I'd pm you directions. If I really don't want people to know, would I be putting one of America's most famous mountain ranges in the background? But, the azzclown is geolocating and literally walking viewers into fishing holes. He's the absolute worst; a guy with almost no game who pimps out locations in lieu of quality content.
dude is gonna run into somebody on a bank or a trailhead somewhere that'll set him straight.
I'd just high hole him. He's an absolute tortoise lugging all his gear. I'd just stay ahead of him and harelip every last bite ready trout while he was setting up his tripod in the hole below me. I'd make sure that wherever he set up, there I am in the background. Apparently, we missed each other by only one or two days so I have my hopes up for next summer. If not, I'll leave my customary territorial pissings on the mud bar:
"UR2L8"
If you ever see that in east Idaho post runoff, that was me. I've also been known to write that in the dust on vehicles.
Lol, duderz seems to have pissed on the wrong maggot.
Since it's a new year, I started a new Epical thread for fishy pics and blather. I had a big day.

Great pics, glad to have spent a lot of time fishing with you this season once again. It’s been a fun voyage since that Fourth of July a number of years ago.
I kinda like this pic, my focus is usually about the people rather than the fish…
