Spend a little time around Calamity, if the wind is (hopefully) up and in their face or cross it'll be a rodeo. It played 208 from the winter tees, first round I lost it right, second reached the front of the green, with driver, and two putted for a par. One of my favorite pars ever. Ran in to my previous caddy Alan Dunbar in the Rathmore Club of the Valley Links next door, he said he birdied it, but it took him 5 wood to get there, so I didn't feel too bad. That's another pub you should grab a pint in, if it's open. Darren Clarke likes to hang out at the Harbour Bar but guessing he'll be a bit busy that week...

had one of my best front 9s at redtail going until i blew up with an 8 on par 5 9th for 45. still probably ties my best. played solo 9 in 90 minutes, had to dodge some sprinklers. great time. home before anybody's up.

I can’t believe I got $250 watch for $105 just because the box was opened.

No owner’s manual but I downloaded PDF.

Also was able to register with the serial number for one year factory warranty.

that is a monster watch. if you start pulling everything, it could be the weight! :)

i like my app because it's cheap and gives lots of info but i hate fiddling with my phone. i'm sure that will be a great tool.

Thankfully watch is very light.
But I do have an excuse when things go wrong. ;)

Like I said the face is big on my Bushnell, but I hardly even notice it. I do always wear a watch though in regular life so I may just be used to it.

Having the distance on your wrist is so much better than having to grab a phone or laser IMHO.

I use it for basic yardage not pin point accuracy. On second shots knowing 140 to front, 150 to middle, 160 to back is really helpful for a higher HC like myself, I know what club won’t get me in trouble if I hit it right.

A couple of guys I play with have range finders, but I find an app more useful because it gives me yardage to hazards, distance to front, middle, back of green, etc. I can usually see where the pin is relative to the green and be close enough +/- 5 yards deep.

To me a range finder is overkill and they ain't cheap and it's just another thing to lose or get damaged at the course. I keep my phone in my pocket, so no big deal to whip it out and check yardages. Actual distance to the pin is really only useful on the approach shot while as app can be used several times on a hole to see how far to carry a bunker or water and then distances to the hole.

I played 9 after work yesterday and started out well and then a couple of beers and no food combined with me being a lightweight drinker caused me to implode (at least that's what i'm telling myself). Started bogey, par, par, par and then hit a nice drive on a dogleg par 5 and tried to go over the trees and...... Ended up with a 9 on the hole and followed that up with a triple and a double. Then had par and bogey for a 47. Erratic is an understatement.

I've been playing for years and still haven't mastered the bump and run you guys were talking about earlier. I prefer to use my lob wedge around the green because the 1 time out of 8 that I hit it perfect it looks so sweet. I went out tonight and practiced the bump and run at a local course when nobody was around, I think I can knock 5 strokes off my score if I practice that and get pretty good at it.

Good points on the difference between rangefinders and apps. To my hack eye, it's more helpful to have the yardage to the pin than intermediate targets. A miss on the green is more costly than earlier. I am biased tho, my rangefinder sucks at bunkers yardages, but is good on the pin, and was $125 a few years ago.

Ya, those were good beers. Gotta stick with the Natty Light. Bump and run with 8-P can be money. And pretty intuitive, suerte!

You guys’ advice on chipping with pitching wedge changed my short game.
I haven’t approached green this well as far as I can remember.

Dropped some coin on a new putter and driver. Not quite dentist type coin as I opted for last years driver instead of this years color combos. Had to justify the 50% off TREW powfunk ya know too.

M2 with an upgraded shaft (aldila rogue silver 70 stiff) and Red Ball putter for less than a NEW driver. Old driver was circa 2006 and Anser from 1984. Brand new Driver & shaft was like $800 last year $250 this.

If you are looking for good gear cheap, there is a golf forum called golfwrx.com that has a classified section with a classified section similar to the Gear Swap here. Lots of gear hos that use a club for a couple of rounds and want to turn it over for the latest and greatest. I got almost all of my golf stuff on there.

I've bought 90% of my gear off golfwrx for the last decade. Only things i haven't have been because of shipping, a bag and powered push cart. Four years ago found a dude in Texas who must live on the right side of a pond at 200yds out. I've bought 6-7 boxes of 15 dozen lightly used mid-squish balls for $60 shipped. That reminds me, I need to get another box ordered!
