these last two impulses have dropped more north than south, and definitely way more on the crest than east of it. i'd be interested in seeing how some of the stuff north of 80 is doing. Carson Pass should be in good shape too.

It snowed quite a bit up here at Alpine overnight. I'd say another 7-8". What a nice surprise. Snow seems to have let up now and there's a blue sky window.
Anybody know what the deal with the artillery training at KW is? Does the training imply they will have a recoiless this year? I've always been under the impression that KW was controlled exclusively via hand-work.
They have been by hand. They do have an old platform above whiskey slide, though. What I heard, is this is the first step in opening up the cirque. If they are shooting from that platform, it would very much be to control the cirque. Even if they don't open up that terrain, it would get eagle and thunder open much quicker. I don't think they can hit the wall to well from that position (or maybe they could with a precise lob), but they may have also set something up from the valley. It would be pretty nice if they could bomb the top remotely.
Maybe Coop will chime in on this.
my impression is that it is hand controlled in these days of homeland security but the cirque, saddle, and vista used to be controlled via the 75 mm howitzer on the ridge by the top of chair 2. don't what it requires for them to do it, but evidently they still can
This slide in March 2006 was triggered by the howitzer (from accuweather.com)

i do not work at KW, so I am not sure, BUT, what I do know about AC with military ordinance is that it has more to do with needing the guns in Iraq and Afganistan than homeland security - also, surplus artillery shells are becoming hard to find, and new ones cost a lot - same story for most ski area guns as I understand it - I'll ask around, I know a few gunners
Kwood has a 75 mm recoiless rifle mounted near the top of chair. from that location they can hit everything from thimble peak to palisades. the idea has been to shoot the gun to knock down the big stuff making it safer for patrol to fine everything else with hand charges. and make it safer for grooming to start.
oops, my bad
some areas do not have the guns they once had - looks like KW does
SPAM: One spot opened up in our South Lake Tahoe Lease for the season. $1,150. PM if interested.
Thanks.
Surprisingly good skiing at Bear Valley Resort off Hwy 4 today, and a spectacularly beautiful early winter day. The old snow on north facing slopes, although thin, froze nicely making for good powder skiing with very few hits. Good enough for the dog and I to stick around for six laps.
Anyone looking for 2-3 more people for a ski lease in South Lake? My girlfriend, myself and maybe one other person are hunting for some open spots. PM me!
pics of girlfriend?

Watch out for increasing instability over the next few days. We could have a significant cycle if the Wed/Thu systems blow and suck moisture out of the air.
BTW, does anyone know how to embed video like the one above?
I have some of the new Dynafiddles and wonder if anyone out there has the "radical" jig they need. Bueller?
Click quote to see how it was embedded and compare it to the url of the vid at youtube.
basically everything after v= surrounded by [y outube][/youtube] space left on purpose in the first tag.
^^^^X2 Getting washing machined through the throat of hour glass, possibly strained through the trees/snags/stumps on the runout sides not advised, especially if it goes all the way to ground.
He said the facets formed in early December.
Is that vid from this week/year?
From the description on Youtube: "Extended column test showing that fractures can occur within the Nov. 18th facet layer. When Brandon states that this layer formed in "early December" he meant to say early November."Quote:

went to the wood today to pick up my pass and make some turns with the pup. it was quite good. the little guy got tired (i think) so we didn't top out. at the bottom there was a base which became a little deeper and lighter as you went up. we enjoyed it. may get out to carson sans pup tomorrow.
Shit sandwich!
