Ya, they need to remove the DH from the AL, not add it to the NL.

if you are going to do that, then scrap the season.
the astros are going hell yeah, most of our games in the crappy AL west and yankees, Bosox and rays are going WTF all AL east ?
the league could play as as scheduled using the grapefruit and florida mlb stadiums and cut down travel and exposure. if you cannot play the 2nd half sched as is, scrap it.
I'm the opposite. Hitting is part of baseball. Sorry if you only have one talent, can't hit, and are worried about injuries. You're making millions, spend some time in the weight room and cage. Your one talent better be good enough to offset sucking at 50% of the game.
I suppose the argument for having the DH in all games is because otherwise there'd be a potential advantage to teams that get the DH more or less due to the unbalanced schedule, but that seems like a pretty poor justification to me. I bet MLB is thinking this is their chance to capture some viewers who might otherwise not watch baseball because they consider it boring, so they're doing everything they can to make it exciting.
its like watching paint dry
What revenue? No seats, no food and drinks, barely any merchandise. Only thing left is cable revenue, which is a can of worms that is just getting exposed out there. A lot of America is waking up to the fact that they're paying for sports they could care less about every month, if they have cable.
I'd like to see self pitch softball rules with homeruns as outs.
Not sure what that’s about. I have never used the ignore button.
But if it’s something serious shoot me a PM
Ledinsky put out an awesome EP.
But this song is better and non political.

The landfill is more crowded than ever, Lowe’s is packed mid-day on a Tuesday. Stay home order my ass. At least the commercial supply houses have band none account holders.

I was thinking that this is legal maneuvering around forced labor, sorta like the real world . Payroll is contractually obligated, right? No pandemic clause, probably. Owners lose on that shit sometimes in normal seasons. Now it's a giant money pit. So, work out something, negotiate for partial salary. If the players reject, major lawsuit after "lockdown".
My great/grand (whatever) WWII serving uncle beat the rona, at 94 y/o. Guy is invincible.
Don't think his quality of life has been too good the last few years, but it still brings a smile to my face.
The flu was a bad one this year. That has been documented.
Perhaps those Feb cases were COVID, but not Dec.
My complaint: I started saving and returning our cans and bottles a few years ago with my son. He earns spending money crushing cans and bringing them with me to get cash. He keeps the cash.
We had a pretty solid stock when everything shut down. Now I have about $50 worth of recycling sitting in my garage. That is a big chunk of change but I can return them because recycling is non essential. Now, the State did charge me a buckle a piece on the promise they would give it back if I brought them in to a recycler. They closed the recyclers, but is still taking my money. I think it now amounts to an illegal tax that I’m considering buying an automatic weapon to match on the capital with to show I’m no sheep. I want my $50. We fought a war over this shit.
Bullshit. Tell that to:
Mike Hampton
Zach Greinke
Adam Wainwright
Don Drysdale
Carlos Zambrano
Bob Gibson
Lefty Carlton
oh and Babe Ruth...
all of whom hit better than many shortstops.
Lack of DH makes for a more strategic "small ball type game with low scoring pitchers' duels.
The reason that pitchers leave the game after 5 innings is expansion (not as many good pitchers to go around) the longstanding trend of specialty pitchers (lefty/righty, set up, closer) and expanded rosters.
Not with the same consistency that eliminating 30%(ok, 1/3) of the game will.
While we're at it, I think aluminum bats should be legalized. And get rid of helmets for batters, let's make this interesting. No gloves for outfielders either. Let's see how those soft hands drills paid off.
Personally, I like 9 innings for a few reasons:
1: Historical stats (HR, RBI, Hits, etc.) is the criteria by which all players are measured.
2: 5 innings for a game to become official
3: A batter being able to see the pitcher a second, or even 3rd time around. A pitcher is much more effective when a batter has not seen him before
4: Number of innings a pitcher needs to pitch before being eligible for a win
5: Offensive and defensive managerial strategies.
Anyone who has watched the final season of Brockmire will find this eerily familiar.
It's all good. For me, sarcasm is hard-wired.:o
It’s not the innings. It’s the tv time outs and the warmup pitches.
They need to keep the game moving, sneak ads in where they can, do picture in picture ads etc.
When I was a lad, a double header was not eight hours.
From wiki
=======
In 1959, at least one league played a quarter of their games as classic doubleheaders. The rate declined to 10% in 1979. Eventually, eight years passed between two officially scheduled doubleheaders. Reasons for the decline include clubs' desire to maximize revenue, longer duration of games, five-day pitching rotation as opposed to four-day rotation, time management of relievers and catchers, and lack of consensus among players.[2]
The record for the most doubleheaders played by a team in a season is 44 by the Chicago White Sox in 1943.[3] Between September 4 and September 15, 1928, the Boston Braves played nine consecutive doubleheaders – 18 games in 12 days.[3]
Should I take my coronavirus bitch to the baseball thread? I got one but it seems like it would be out of place here.
Please derail this baseball shit
Madison Bumgarner is going to be angry you left him off that list. ;-)
I love National League baseball. The DH eliminates so much strategy from the game.
In general... baseball is screwed compared to the NBA and NFL. The latter two leagues have monster TV contracts, baseball not nearly as much and far more reliant on ticket sales, etc.
I tried to post this in the MLB thread but that big pic of skinny CC freaked me out and I had to retreat. So, I received a little bit of a virus safety beatdown here at home earlier from my wife and daughter, with them trying to get all sciencey on me. And a few minutes ago I walked in on the two of them in a deep dive on astrology. wtf. This shall not stand. Hold my beer and watch this, fellas.
