Got a bottle of Four Roses Al Young release. Super pumped to give it a try, saving it for next week.
Pleasantly surprised with the bourbon quality available in MA liquor stores. And often cheaper than back in KY.
^Nice.
It's limited release season, what has the collective picked up this year? Waiting for BTAC to release in MA, but did crack the latest Midwinters Night Dram last night. Tasty. And the glass smells amazing the morning after.
Got a few Eagle Rare store picks, those have become my go to daily sippers.
Nothing fancy yet, but I scored a bottle of Weller Antique 107 for $29. Really nice for the price.
What did you think of the Turley Mill cask strength?
This makes me sad in the liver. My favorite hooch store in Europe just got knocked off, ON FOOT!, to the tune of ~$800,000 of rare brownwater.

Orphan Barrel in Tullahoma TN.
About an hour from my house.
^Beautiful.
I can't seem to find any Weller around here lately. Makes me sad. Though on the recommendations here, picked up some Four Roses Small Batch recently that I've been enjoying. And I think my Christmas gift from my brother in law is going to be High West Campfire.
So it's taken me a long circuitous route to get here. But I've settled on Bourbon. I'm still a newb. But rate my newb quiver.
Weller SR
Weller Antique
Woodfords Double Oaked
Four Roses single Barrel.
I feel like I prefer my proof between 90-100.
This all stemmed from just wanting some bourbon to put in a pecan pie. I figured since I was buying a bottle, I might want to get something worth sipping. So I ended up with the Weller Antique, and found it quit enjoyable. I feel like I'm going down a dark path that will cost me a lot of money in the long run.
Funny to read this thread from the beginning and laugh at the prices of Pappy.
^All good for a quiver. I really like Weller Antique (great bargain) and the 4 Roses SB a lot.
McKenna is becoming my go to bourbon. I’ve been sitting on the Weller SR and 107 I have since I don’t know when I’ll see more. Have still yet to find the 12. Larceny not a bad substitute for the SR, IMO.
Blantons has been scarcer lately as well.
My local has been keeping a good stock of the Weller. Would like to find the 12. I also have a bottle of the Larceny. My wife discovered the Four Roses last night, and proclaimed it as her favorite.....because of course she did.
That being said. So far it seems that Bourbon, while being more of a hunt is cheaper on the whole than wine. Becasuse a 20 dollar or 50 dollar bottle of wine will still be drank in one night.
Was looking for Weller at a fairly reliable store in Evanston recently, employee suggested Larceny since they were out of Weller. Larceny is good but lacks a certain bite I expect out of a burbon. Left a bit to be desired.
Found half a bottle of Van Winkle 12 in the back of a corner cabinet. It’s more like a 15 now. Really good stuff, and impossible to get here now. Shame, it was a bargain not too long ago.
^Nice find!
I'm still pissed about bookers. Was my go-to and having a hard time finding a replacement for the old price range(was able to find it around 55 in MT). Been going with Blantons but not quite the same. I do like me a high proof bourbon with just enough kick to lemme know I'm drinking bourbon. Been drinking my low end Ezra Brooks lately. Also been grabbing Elijah Craig 12yr.
Got a pair of those Norlan glasses for Christmas from my mom (thanks mom). She also got me a bottle of Casa Noble Anejo (tasty tequila).
I find the Wellers to be easy-drinking...but lack "character".
My current quiver:
Buffalo Trace (go to...especially for my Manhattans)
Eagle Rare
Weller SR
Larceny
I’ve found that after receiving a couple bottles of Jefferson’s Reserve for Christmas that it is a fine changeup from Woodford.
Thanks. Have had bakers and wasn't super impressed. Haven't had the 114 but old grandad never did it for me before they became popular with this new wave. Like I said I do enjoy Elijah so I'll keep an eye out for the barrel proof and knob creek was my go to before I started getting bookers. I still enjoy the knob ck rye if I'm having an old fashioned.
Opened an OGD114 I had last night. Forgot how tasty it is. Might grab a few more for the stash.
Also picked up some Pikesville Rye this week that I’m enjoying.
^^^ Yessir! The og is pretty much always front and center in my liquor cabinet.

Good call. Tried some at dinner 2nite. Was very surprised and happy. Should have ordered it neat though as they didn't have big cube (i know I feel douchey even saying it) and I preferred it quite a bit more before it watered down. Also only $9 for a double. Gonna have to put it in the rotation. Thanks again guys for the recommendation.
Remarkably Jim Beam pre prohibition Rye is tasty as hell. And under $20 here in AK.
im a newbie but liking the larceny for now...reviews were good for $30 bottles.
I keep re-visiting the Larceny, and trying to like it. For some reason I just don't. I'm really digging the Elijah Craig, and Eagle Rare in that price point.
Side note. I have bought way too many bottles in the past month. I'm getting deep down this rabbit hole.
I’ve been getting some eye rolls from the wife lately when I come home with a new bottle. But it’s all in the name of science I tell ya!
Lucked out this weekend and got a bottle of Weller 12, OWA, Sazerac Rye, and Elmer T Lee from a buddy. Also got to try some Rock Hill Farms that was absolutely delicious.
Christmas was good...always nice having family visit from the USA where access to this stuff is so much better than up here in Canuckistan...

Opened the EH Taylor, and it is amazing. Have not opened the Blood Oath, seems like it might be a bottle that the marketing and exclusivity may warrant keeping unopened (i.e. the reviews of the actual bourbon don't keep up with the hype) ... but will likely just find the right night and pop it.
(wine is part of another rabbit hole addiction, but will save that for it's own thread...)
The trick is to figure out what it is that you like at some point and have kind of a list when you go to the bottle shop and see what's available in your price range. I've experimented a lot, and every now and then I'll try something new but I've got a pretty good idea of what I like best, which is good when I'm faced with aisles full of brown liquor choices.
I'll stock up a bit if I find something that isn't always available. I came across a good price on George Stagg Jr. recently at my LLS so I picked up a few. I've done the same with Four Roses single barrel.
Scored big at Christmas, and perhaps a bum leg.
Elija Craig single barrel
Makers 46
Makers
Basil Hayden
Jack Daniels White Rabbit (yeah I know)
Jack Daniels Red Dog----Reeeeally good stuff although not a bourbon
The Jack Red Dog is very smooth, great taste on the front end and mellow on the back. Unfortunately, unless you are in Tennessee, neither White Rabbit or Red Dog are available.
My daughter, who I though loved me, picked up a bottle of George T. Stagg for $89 at a liquor store in NC, then promptly sold it for $400. Told her that would have been a real nice Christmas gift for dad, but.....
