Shit you built with your own two hands (picture thread)

This spring's projects, part one.

OK, so I started with some simple things, (But I have a list of 50+ ideas for other items as I receive parts to make them).

I am trying to determine pricing.

Other quality 'art' cheese-trays range all over the board, from $25-$250 dollars.
These took some time and thought, are very durable, high quality, and I think) machine washable (but not recommended). I wouldn't try it with the clock, obviously.

I can do custom designs, of course, with the chainrings, chains, cogs, etc. of your choosing or request.

I will also be making matching knives with bonded chain as the handle.

my goal is for these to be elegant, and not just for the hardcore cyclist as I find different materials that have interesting geometric designs.

I am thinking ~$59 for the trays , and $35 for the knife (custom blades available for more, Henkels, Hoffritz, etc).

I also will be doing picture frames as soon as I source wood.



Everything is recycled, (except for the clock motor). The LED's are from worn out kid's light up shoes, and the power supply is from a car phone charger. The bolts are Presta valves.

The tape has been replaced by wood veneer.

The wires are painted to match the walls (nearly invisible) or easily disconnect and hide in the clock.

I have 6 or so other things in the pipeline, more pics to come.

My whole design philosophy is to showcase the geometric beauty of the bike parts, and contrast that with glass, wood, and stone. Hopefully it will appeal to many folks, not just bike nuts. These are early projects, they are getting more refined as I go. Think stuff that would work in a billionaire's house just as well as a bike mechanic skid's...

Awesome stuff, RideIt. I'd like to see a lazy susan... clear round tray for the table center that spins around? (Maybe on a nice wood base?) I'm sure that'd be easy for you.

Would you be willing to commission one?

How big? 24"? 36"?
Two levels, one for main dishes, and a smaller one on top for condiments/apps?
(Like a wedding cake stand, sorta)
I could make a really badass one out of recycled bulletproof glass. There would be 5 or so chainrings underneath to accentuate each dish, with other items to hold the condiments, like upside down cassettes and chain bowls.
it could also have a slow moving motor, or even be backlit, if you were interested.

I am also making tea candle holders out of cassette carriers, they might go with that perfectly.

I could do the whole thing as understated and elegant, or bold and chunky as your tastes require.

Commonlaw, I can do customs as well, you pick your design, wood, number style, backlit or not, road components or mountain, you get the picture. Can do just about any size from ~4" up to 4 feet.

Oh, I am also working on pretty elegant menorahs (on paper for now)

I'll have to talk to the miss's, but if you could put a menorah on it too, we'd likely have a deal!

the lazy susan idea is a great one, and something i'd love to see pictures of if you build it.

Below are some pics of a nightstand that I built in a local woodshop class. Its not my design and I had a considerable amount of guidance throughout the project, but I think it turned out pretty good for my first piece of furniture...

Start a thread, post pics and prices, really dig what you've posted and only came across it because of the post in Marshal's Sprockets thread.

My summer project was new putting down new travertine floors in our kitchen. Not as impressive as most/all projects on here, but I felt good when it was done.

It will have a glass top up to 18", the thing is smooth as silk.

I can also do some embellishments under the top glass (pieces of chain, etc), but i don't think it needs it.

I think $150 is fair...(but i can do a less elaborate/smaller one for ~$90, or super cheech Dura Ace/campy chainrings, etc for $250)

Early, I am reworking the wood backing with solid cherry in order to make it more durable, I loved the veneer, but it was finicky. Should have your done end of next week.

Seconding Danno's suggestion to get a separate thread for your stuff, ride.

i used to work with wood, but now i just fuck around and hack random stuff together. its really refreshing not having to be so precise with any of it. of course, i don't have to make money doing this either.
