Zwift, TR, Sufferfest etc

Zwift set up:
Spare bedroom is used for pain cave, wattage cottage etc. There is room for mine and Mrs. Hubbs bikes. I'm on Kurt Kentic R1 direct drive, Wahoo Kickr Smart trainer on backorder for her.
Bike is dedicated trainer built Specialized Roubaix with Di2 shifters.
Zwift run off of AppleTV for solo rides, or one on Apple TV and one off of MacBook Pro to HDMI cable if we are riding an event together. (seldom)
One 42" TV Permanently mounted on wall/built in, one 42" TV sitting on the desk (borrowed from Garage) if I want to watch a movie or sports for long rides.
Open window behind me with a fan blowing in cold air, I can reach this fan with my hands. Box fan in front of me for air blowing at me, I have this fan on a wifi remote plug if I want to turn it off or on during a ride.
iPhone is bar mounted for Zwift Companion App or fan remote, or TGR threads. Apple TV remote hangs off the bars, TV Remotes sit on bed beside me, bedside table just behind me for drinks/nutrition, Kleenex to blow my nose.
Rubber mat that rolls up and also collects all sweat and drips and tears.
Other must haves are hand towel, sweatbands for head, and wrists.

My lovely wife and I have always been gym-goers - me maybe weekly, her close to daily. Despite her incessant outdoor riding and skate skiing she still spun a lot at the gym and did weight classes. So when Covid hit we decide to turn the garage into a gym, Figured out it'd be about an 18 month payback - so break-even is early next summer. It's awesome. Will never have a gym membership again, plus our late teenage year kids use it all the time now, so that's awesome too. My 16yo daughter is getting into zwift too which is cool. Very insulated, but it gets a little cold in the winter but never past 48 or so which is quite pleasant for riding. Kinda hot in the summer however.

About 10 years ago I hurt my achilles, and oddly biking was excruciating while running didn't hurt at all. Got out of the biking habit - it had filled up with an enormous amount of performance pressure from my older race days, and it felt good to leave that behind. This year of Covid is getting me back on the bike, so thanks for bearing with my shit watt levels on these group rides. Feels like I'll never get back into bike shape, but the group rides are helping.

Finally, as I got older, I found that lifting really really helps with skiing, soccer, biking etc. I'm certainly no body builder, but boy does my body feel better if I do routine maintenance.

Anyway, first pic is the zwift setup side of the garage with tv/fan/laptop/etc, second pick is the rest fof the gym with a sporting goods store behind it that our family of 4 apparently needs to support our habits. You can't even see the skateboard rack with literally 20 damn boards on it or the wheelset rack above the workbench, so it's even worse than it appears.

We have our trainer set up in the spare room that’s still the dumping ground for things we haven’t unpacked. I need to get a matt. The front wheel is on a lazy Suzan for the mountain bike tracks in Zwift.

While we are on that topic, what the hell is up with all the Canadians in this thread? Half the people on the group rides are throwing up the maple leaf. Is it cause they have snow on the ground 10 months out of the year?

^^ Indy Fab is sweet, always wanted a Mountain frame from them. Rode/raced against Harlan Price who was a team rider early/mid 2000s.

Sorry if this is long, but I kinda work in this field and I’ve read a lot about of different articles about these situations, and find it interesting.
The ESport Cycling World Championships were suppose to be held today in a stadium with fans and all the riders in the same spot competing. With COVID they did it at each of the riders homes or studio etc.
UCI sent the same brand model smart trainer to all athletes to be equal and fair. Weigh ins and height measurements are done over Skype to ensure it’s accurate. A rider needs a second power meter source recorded by a secondary device to ensure they have not manipulating their smart trainer to read heigh. Like power meter pedals recorded with a Garmin, Zwift them overlay the 2 files to ensure the power files are the same. With all of this the racing should be fair.
Zwift will also look your Zwift history, and look at your power averages and see if anything looks funny.
As for the British guy who was stripped of his national title. His buddy wrote code and tricked Zwift into thinking he rode 50,000m and thus he got the “Tron” bike which is 1.3% faster than other bikes. He was disqualified for manipulating data.
As for the the last 2 girls in the article. The first one didn’t have a independent 2nd power meter file, sent one from a different ride in, and when Zwift didn’t accept it, she copied the power file from her smart trainer and loaded it into her bike computer and named it “crank power meter” and tried to submit it as valid. Zwift disqualified and sanctioned her for manipulating data.
The second girl paired her crank power meter to Zwift (instead of smart trainer) and raced, and then submitted her “independent” power file, which turned out to be exact same as the original file, again when asked for the correct file they manipulated a file to try to trick Zwift.
Today World Championships paid out $28,000 and the sanctioned Races have rules, and you can’t break the rules or try to fake the results.
These 2 girls cried innocent, but they had submitted files that had been manipulated, it would be like a drug test, and not peeing, but submitting someone else’s pee, or your own pee from “another time”. These girls are on a professional cycling team, with a Coach, Manager, Sport Director, and should have know better.
The original plan for these races was going to be in a stadium with DJs and crowds and a fun atmosphere, but with COVID they have to be at the athletes home. They are trying to do everything they can to ensure they are fair and accurate, and they are calling out the early cheaters.

Haha. I haven’t even fired that thing up yet, it’s been so mild. Box fan is key. When I first set things up with the new trainer last winter I was sweating my ass off and left a massive puddle and realized what I was missing.

Couple things I’ve learned from dipping my toes in the water (except for the Zwift familiarization ride, all mine have been erg mode training programs).

1- A functioning cadence sensor is really important. I’m using a boost-spaced MTB with unfashionably longish chainstays (Banshee Titan) and 170mm cranks, so my pedal axle comes nowhere near the Tacx sensor. I added a Garmin to the crank. Erg is murder without a good cadence reading.

2- As a winch-and-plummet mountain biker, I’ve never had to learn to spin. I did a lot of road touring in high school, but that’s a long ways behind me now. Erg is also murder with a low cadence.

That was the start of the ride, you should have seen all the red on my graph in the final 3 miles!
I had a max heart rate of 181bpm! Old guy can still punish, not bad for 55 years old.
