Loveland was awesome today. fresh snow and almost no people.
See you in the morning. About fucking time.
I'll be there.
So they opened everything north of chair 9 (Marmot, Field of Dreams, etc), and starting the ridge cat today. But everything south of chair 9 is still closed. I've never seen that before.
the cornice heading up Wild Child and overhanging Porcupine looks to be from meh to 20'
Ehh, that’s been pretty common the last few years. They want to get the cat going. I’m sure they will go south next.
Any word on if 13010 is open?

Skied yesterday. Rode chair 9 and hiked out past lookers right above chair 4...the snow from the last storm has firmed up quite a bit with the low temps and it was a bit crusty. Not impossible to ski but definitely not worth a hike.
Easily one of the steepest zones in CO. There and corona at Eldora
If it's the Brian I'm thinking of he didn't exactly have the best safety record. Or employee record for that matter. I'll defer to Pip on this one.
Loveland was good today. Some fresh and blownnin to soften things up. Mountaintop matrimony.
Looks like some of the south side of the ridge is being prepped for opening.
First time I've seen 4, 8 and 9 all shut down because of wind. What was open skied decent where the wind wasn't carving Utah canyon like sastrugi features a foot + deep.
Had an interesting convo with a patroller on the chair. She says 9 is designed to withstand 180 mph sustained winds. Not for operating but to still be there the morning after an extreme wind event. She said operating wind speed is 70-80 mph. Apparently LLand had to convince the lift engineers to do so.
Taking a look at 9 from Ptarmigan it's apparent the towers are short, mostly one piece tubes, chairs spaced out, etc.
I'd be surprised if it has ever turned in 80 mph winds. Even 70 mph would be surprising.
I've been on 9 when it was gusting up to about 45mph. They basically let us off the chair, shut the chair down, and then patrol skied down with us.
You really don't want to be on the Ridge with crazy winds and no vis. Its real sucky.
Been there, done that, rescued the injured patroller who was mostly covered in a drift...wasn't a good day that day.
anyone headed up tomorrow?
Lift ops have told me in the past that they usually shut down when they exceed 60 mph sustained. Considering it regularly operates at 60+, I wouldn’t be surprised is design operating wind speed of is 80 mph+

Is Super Bowl or Wild Child open yet? How about Golden Bear?
No, no, and no. At least not by early afternoon today. I bet it won't be too much longer. Rock chutes had some tracks in them though
