Cartel land is pretty intense
Indeed. It Really managed to humanize every aspect of the drug/smuggling trade; From the Arizona border recon guys, that i may have discredited as gun toting bigots to the many Mexican town people threatened and murdered by lawless cartel, even the meth producing cartel guys were honest about the damage they inflict, but ultimately resigned to their criminal behaviour.
Watching 'heavy water wars' now. Digging it a lot. Highly recommend it.
Ps. There's ski action in it!
Warriors - absolute classic
Sense8 - interesting at first then much too soap opera and plot line never really expands
Taking of tiger mountain - very entertaining and great ski scenes
Le Chef - very funny
Dope - not intriguing based upon Netflix short description but turned out to be hysterically funny yet still providing a dark look into the ghetto of LA
The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats Its Young A race that only 10 people have finished in 25 years. Half of the race is ran on unmarked trails. Total vertical climb is 54,600 and you have 60 hours to finish it. I've no desire to run a marathon or even a 10k, but was up til almost 2am finishing this movie. Best documentary I've seen in awhile, I didn't think endurance races could be entertaining
Just watched that, gc323. Crazy race!
Longmire
Daredevil is great.
"The Hunt" - excellent movie about false accusations and hysteria, and how they can spiral out of control.
Double post..
The Ranch.
I posted in the other thread, but thought it worthy enough for this one
Basically an R rated version of the 70's show.
We watched it straight through. I thought it was really good.
just finished Jessica Jones. I liked it a lot, more than Daredevil (though I liked that too).
Next up: Better Call Saul.
Archer season 6 is finally streaming! First two episodes: eh. Third episode, however, has Archer & crew in something like the Alps, and (slight spoiler, though of course this was going to happen)...
Archer is in an avalanche. Which is AWESOME because being in an avalanche was on his bucket list.
^^awesome. Thanks for the heads up.
Latest season of Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown now up.
Cooked with Michael Pollan is good if you're a foodie.
29th April
Salem. Creepy witch show. Excellent acting. I'm hooked.
A drummers dream... great music documentary
Just came up on Netflix..
We are Twisted Fucking Sister! Not a fan but pretty good documentary about the band and the music scene outside of NYC in the Tri State area in the 70s. Dee Snider and JJ are pretty interesting guys. These guys were selling out 3000-5000 seat rooms in the area before they ever cut a record or had a deal.
Valley Uprising, docu about Yosemite climbing, just got picked up on Netflix.
Also, Into The Wild, the Sean Penn film that's very much worthy of the Krakauer book, is streaming now.
You guys have some good recs! Barkley Marathons and Valley Uprising were awesome!
Finished up the first season of "Flaked" last night. Definitely worth watching if you're a Will Arnett fan and great acting all around.
This finally made it onto my Netflix list

Book it's based on is superb.
I watched the whole thing, and kind of agree. I finished the season feeling unfulfilled, though. I realized why when I discovered the term Traumady. The author made a good point, saying they make for lazy writing. They're not really funny, but don't have a lot of drama, so they're just not that compelling and expectations aren't as high. I like the characters, I like the setting, I just don't see it keeping me engaged. I'll watch the second season, but mostly because I like Arnett. I will also continue watching Bojack Horseman, which is basically the same show in cartoon form.
Watched "Runnin' Down a Dream" last night, a four-hour documentary on Tom Petty. I know, four hours... but it's worth it, even for casual fans. The guy has talent, and apparently balls of steel.
I can understand that criticism and agree somewhat. I like that we're in a genre bending/blending age right now though. Also, you can only do so much in eight 30-minute episodes. The setup is there for a solid second season, it'll be interesting to see where it goes.
Hah, me too. Arco arena, think I was 13 at the time so it would have been '96. Not really sure what my parents were thinking in retrospect.
If you're a dog lover, watch "The Champions". Documentary about the dogs seized in the raid on Michael Vick's property. It's about the dogs and their rehab and adoption, it's not about Vick.
Recently watched a movie called The Divine Move. Never thought a movie about a board game would be so violent. Makes poker look like Monday evening Bingo at the local church.
