It might have been the straw that broke the Red Bull's back. The Sky article is very good if you haven't read it. Especially this all happening on the back of the 2017 engine equalization rules and guaranteed supply (from Honda?) requirements announced in the past few days. Jos must be convinced that Red Bull are no going to be held up by inferior Renault (TAg) power for much longer to have put his signature on a long term contract.

Verstappen is a very, very special talent going to be fascinating to watch.

Yeah, it was a good article. A lo of speculation, but seems to make sense. No doubt he didn't get sent down because of the crash, but curious as to how many straws it added.

Versappen is certainly a talented kid, but I think he still has a long way to go to prove himself still. This Red Bull seat will certainly give him a chance to sink or swim, kind of like Kyvat, who may have bumped others a few too many times.

I can't imagine there are any political or overriding commercial aspects to Formula 1:rolleyes: Spain will be interesting.

Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean's debut in NASCAR could happen as early as this summer, after Stewart-Haas Racing revealed it is now working on a plan to get the Frenchman a race entry.... this would be awesome.

Several F1 drivers have expressed interest in NASCAR, Hamilton and Ricciardo. Earnhardt Jr. even offered a ride for Ricciardo. The problem lies more with the teams not letting their drivers do it. A lot of risk of a driver getting hurt and destroying their F1 season. This year there was a good possibility with the NASCAR Xfinity series running Watkins Glen during F1's summer break.

I'm all for it.. It's a tremendous pity that 24hours of Le Mans clashes with the Azerbaijan (Where?) Grand Prix. It would be great to see Hulkenburg defend his title... maybe even have a few other F1 drivers have a go.

I'm all for a F1 drivers driving in other series , most professional drivers already race multiple series, I just hate to see them drive NASCAR, that is how much I dislike that series. At least there are a few road coarses

Verstappen is kicking at Ricciardo's heels in FP 1 & 2. Mighty impressive.

Whereas Kvyat is well behind Sainz.

Going to be interesting to see how this weekend goes between the four of them.

Hamilton: what a putz. He caused MB big-time points today. He was so pissed that Rosberg passed him at the start, that he acted way too aggressively, and cost MB the lead, points and possibly the win.

Perfect drive from Max.. game just changed.

Congrats to Max, the kid is the real deal. Doubt he would have won without some help from MB, but still great drive.

IMO there was no reason for Nico to block that agressively. He started with his left wheels on the line and ended with his right wheels on the opposite white. A block is one thing, but to there was no reason to cut that far and that hard except to run Lewis of the track. Not sure what the stewards are going to call, but I think Nico is most to blame.

Hamilton stuck his foot into a door that was already being slammed shut. Reports say Rosberg was in wrong engine mode and was therefore so much slower out of previous corner. Crash was more down to Hamilton being impetuous than anything.

But no doubt the Mercedes are head and shoulders above rest of field still.

Great race.

Stewards called it a racing incident...interesting.

I still say Hamilton had is foot in the door, and Rosberg shut it on him, and not just the door, but a triple wide door.

I saw Hutash's version of the rosberg- hamilton episode ; In the history of them both racing for Mercedes; when ever Rosberg sees Lewis in his rearview mirror he says/ does stupid shit; i would'nt be surprised if Nico has Lewis nightmares!
Ricciardo deserves a real explanation for red bulls pit strategy besides giving advantage to the wunderkind.

The pit strategy was quite straightforward 3 stops was the preferred/faster/Less risky one. It's why Vettel was doing it.

Rosberg and Hamilton are not team players. Both are very selfish, and they do not like each other. In the end, that will hurt MB. It's tough with two #1 drivers.
To me, in this instance, Rosberg did the right thing. When racing, I would do the same. Like The Hound says, "Fuck the King"

The silly season just got a reprise. All the new tech regs are going to change things so significantly that MB may not be the dominate manufacturer, like Red Bull taking a shit after the last big change. That has to affect their choice of drivers a lot. If they knew they would dominate, I suspect they would have filled the seat with a winning drive to gather the most points, but with everything up in the air, they might pick a developing driver to groom.
