Interesting. I hope they keep them off trails that are partly outside the resort boundary. Particularly government trail.

That would take a NEPA process by the USFS from what I understood a few years back.
The USFS trails are prescribed via the travel management plan....

Hi Aspen peeps, former resident ski bum here returning this weekend for a visit with my family . I’m looking for some help with mountain bike rentals . According to the site it’s $180 for a full suspension rental which is absurd ! Any help would be appreciated.

Redstone 4th.. maybe not the biggest I've seen there, but still, that has really grown since we started going. I'd like to get back to the Aspen parade one of these days, even if to remind myself it's a twice a decade thing.
Trying to think of some easy summits in our area to stand on. Things like Marble peak, electric pass, etc. Any other suggestions?

Happy summer tourist season from downtown Aspen!

I bet that will cost a fortune to fix.
Bad news,
Mezzaluna's closing 10/5.
We could really use some rain.
Outstanding and blocking the alley.
Mezz closing for good?

I WAS enjoying a relatively smokeless summer. This week and it looks like for a while after are going to stink.
Yes, probably replaced by a super high end chain. Derrick had just signed another 10 year lease.

Pouring the lift tower foundations for the new Coney Glade Chair. The midway station is right between Spider Sabich Race Center and the Lynn Britt Cabin, so they can be accessed by foot.
Guessing the Willits location is staying open? Or No?

Did they figure out how the bottom is aligned? Is it in fact across from the mall and will you be able to ski to it from the mall?
If so, I wonder how often collisions will happen or will that many fewer people ski all the way the base and instead take coney back up?

Mez in Willits, is staying open.
Coney's new base is slightly below the village mall. It will be very congested at times. Mixing Monster fueled jibbers, ankle biters and clueless turons, will be ugly.
If there's no line at either, I'm taking the VX every time.
Thanks…and yes, probably to be avoided. The good thing, it will catch people coming Adam’s avenue to get to the right side of the mtn. That may help a little.
We only go probably twice a season….but when they replace VX with a gondola mix, Sam’s will forever be ruined.
Side note…anyone know if they have been working on new bike park trails this summer? Anything opening before end of season? Thx

They've been doing a lot of maintenance, but no new trails in the park. Could definitely use some rain.
Anyone racing Saturday?
Not racing but I should one of these days.
I took the boys up the Gondola yesterday and the Heli was moving logs around the Heroes zone. Very cool to see how fast they work; kids loved it

Course is taped and trimmed.

We rode half this morning. Rim went mandatory leash last fall, so I don't ride it much anymore.
I'm slow, but if they had a trail dog division, I'd have to go.
Glad to see them doing some more thinning. Hopefully it helps make the top and bottom flat areas more skiable. Did anyone else notice how weirdly shaped and oriented the bumps got last season in Hero's? Will we be stuck with that every season just by nature of the terrain and the tourist skiing it?
Yes and yes.
Long term I think it will improve as people learn the the terrain, how to ski it with a little more speed and confidence and there’s less debris sticking out everywhere to force stopping and turning/traversing. I know they have a multi-year plan of clearing trees and stuff out of that zone. So maybe in five years, if we still have 250”+ per season, we’ll get some better skiing
Best part of Hero's is that everyone is on it like flies on shit and the classics are a lot less crowded. Hopefully the novelty won't wear off any time soon cuz I enjoyed skiing untracked lines in the dumps at noon on pow days last season.
The best skiing serviced by the Hero’s chair is still Walsh’s, Hyrup’s, and Kristi.
I’d almost always rather go Face of Bell>#6>Dumps/Silver Queen first thing on a powder day.
