Any other socalers looking for touring partners? Still relatively new to the area (been in LA a year and a half) and looking to explore the San Gabriel/Gorgonio backcountries, but don't have a deep network of folks to get out with. Have my AIARE 1, been touring for a number of years and am a strong skier, but definitely more conservative in the bc.
I'm in Mammoth for kids spring break next 2 weekends, but hopefully getting out for day trips weekends after. I'm coming from San Diego. Will try to remember to post prior.

Hey @perlhammered, I'll be looking to head out a little later in spring as the pack really settles into a spring corn cycle setup. Should be some epic conditions in both SanGs in the coming weeks. Plus the Eastern Sierra is looking great, heading to Mammoth for spring break this week and eyeing up some lines from the drive.

I really wish I had BC chops. Whenever I see a shot like that it makes me regret that I never took the time to develop my knowledge. I hope that line skied as well as it looks, you guys definitely earned it!
I'll probably be skiing Baldy this weekend. A Saturday session and possibly Friday afternoon as well if timing works out.
Does anyone know how they are planning to do the month of May? I know they said that they are taking ticket reservations into May, but I'm wondering how long our season passes will cover. I think it says April 30 on the pass, but I'm not sure if they will let people with this season's pass keep skiing.
I am trying to get tick San Gorgonio off my list this spring but my weekends are booked with bullshit I can’t bail on (friends weddings etc).
My best shot is probably Friday the 28th but I’m worried how much of the approach will be melted out by then.
What I’m wondering is if I should play hooky this Wednesday since we should get a nice overnight freeze tonight and tomorrow night.

Anyone interested in joining me this Friday for bike into Vincent gap for Mt Baden-Powell ski? Sounds like gate closed near Big Pines, so that adds 10 miles and ~1000 vert round trip. Forecast claiming 60's for high, so will be a sunrise start.
Awesome day on BP today, fattest I recall seeing it in the last 15 years. Started ski down at 11 and had perfect spring conditions. Could see the super bloom out in the desert on the hike up. Was surprised by the number of patches of snow on ACH, but only had to walk a couple. Sun cups have started and will likely grow fast with the hot nights. Heading up to Baldy ski area today. Red qst, green pack, black pants/helmet, and likely orange fleece.
Still lots of snow coverage in San Gorgonio and Big Bear area. I did Sugarloaf and Dry Lake area (solo so no peaking) a few days ago and there was still over five feet of snowpack coverage at the bottom of the main bowl of Sugarloaf, did have to hike about 2 miles at the start and end. Should be good for a few more weeks. San Gorgonio still has great coverage but does require hiking (I parked at the access road entrance) around 1.5 miles before skinning. No suncups I noticed on either run yet but sure to come soon.
How was the snow? With the weak refreeze in SoCal, I’d expect it to ski terrible

Baldy ski area Sunday (chair 4 before 11am, chair 3 until ski down 1 at 4:15) & Mt. BP Friday both skied great. More consecutive hot nights will be a problem.
Baldy was warm and toasty today, they need that system to come through and get a real good freeze in the snowpack, things are melting fast this week. Most of the snow was great hero snow, only a few slopes were overcooked.
4 was not running today, not sure if it's done for the season or not, but looks like there is enough snow to be continuous on Turkey Shoot, but that side is looking thin.

Well, it was very tricky conditions. Fresh snow actually began at Manker Flat TH, but it wasn't really skinnable until just below the ski hut. Below Ski Hut, there was 6" on top of rock/dirt. Above Ski Hut there was 6-10" on top of whatever base was still existing. On sheltered aspects away from the sun it still felt like full on winter up there. And high up from Ski Hut to the summit of San Antonio it was very much still winter.Quote:
