Snow, or rain?
Just rain down here in CC, and no chain controls on 80, so seems unlikely to be snow....

Right now it’s rain all the way to 6800’ at AM.
It's raining in Verdi. @ 5000 feet. But it looks very white up high. Might be time to break out the skis and use My Mt rose pass.
it must be exciting. only one post since 1am... bring the stoke
Anyone know what's up at Alpine Meadows? Was dusting off my gear and noticed only roundhouse is open. What gives? Seems like great coverage on webcams.
edit: forgot about the new Treeline chair. I guess if that's open there's some stuff to be shredded.
Did not finish off as cold as I'd hoped for, heavy but fun pow, upper elevations continue to get pasted. Reminded today why I keep the 192 GPO's in the quiver, pure fun today.
Only stopped once for pics, here are a couple from pillow land central at Sierra@Tahoe.

and on friday we managed to rip an entire bowl below the 6 cornice, about 8" - 16" of wind slab accumulated in just a few hours, ripped 100' wide and ran about 300 yards through a chute. thumbs down

backcountry sounded terrifying, biggum wind slabs - ready to go - with just enough new snow on top to hide them
^^^shit. did you let patrol know? I've set off a few inbound wind slabs there over the years, but nothing that deep.
Right on, Tahoe
Going from Pam Anderson to Annie Hawkins in a couple of weeks.
BTW, last chance to comment on the rules that manage snow user groups in the basin for the next 20 years:

Squaw recap:
Saturday - skied in the rain from 9am-12pm. Snow on groomers was carvable slush to get the motions back. Snow was back and forth snow/rain top of Red Dog and pretty much was all rain at the base until around 7pm Saturday night.
Sunday - usual lower mountain access only so every ski team all trying to access Red Dog/Far East at one time. With all kids in some sort of ski program, I opted to lap Far East with hot pow laps and some sierra cement pillows under Red Dog. Far East had to close to get the lifties up to the upper mountain, so I ended up skiing the steeps under Squaw Creek & Red Dog. They skied pretty damn well all things considered. The wet snow did a lot to provide a barrier to all the truck trunks and rocks. Had to grab my 3 year old at noon, so 2nd half of Niner game (holy shit) and then a Tram lap down Mountain Run with him to pick up my daughter. Its was gorgeous at 2pm with the upper mountain looking glorious!
we caught patrollers in the lift line and brought them back to the spot, and had a chance to inspect the crown height, interface etc. Was *not* really an obvious surface to slide on. The bed layer was softer than the windslab, but no crust or anything slick. It almost looked like the windslab had settled on a frost layer, which would explain why the slab broke so much lower off the ridge -- like fine wind transported grains settling softly and densely on frost 150' below the ridge.
edit: in hindsight there shouldn't really be any frost inbounds, somebody definitely must have skiied through there before us. a head scratcher
Just saw this on SAC. https://www.sierraavalanchecenter.or...de-castle-peak
Backtracking to Friday on the pass. Wind was blow you over strength n lots of snow moving around. Set off some 4” inconsequential releases and the shredding was great in spots, especially lower and a bit more variable in exposed areas

The textured snow was where it’s at st upper elevations

But the lower held the $$$ sugar
Attachment 305545
Amazed at how great the coverage is on the hanging snowfields and faces on roundtop
Attachment 305546
But also noticed how thin the couloir looked. Later found out that was from daiek rinsing if out the day prior
