Not sure how much snow there was but the skiing today sure was great. Only truly "wtf is happening" skiing I found was on yellow trail where I was hitting the rain? crust until I got around low notch.
Thought it was a much better pow day than last Friday :yourock:

The snow was talking today. 9500’, NE facing, all sorts of instabilities. Was gonna turn around but noticed an old slide from the last storm, skied down the bed of that.
Heh, I got back to my car at the bypass at 2:15, saw that skinner and shook my head. Dudes in the car next to me were marveling how badass it was.

No personal experience but I know an old tele guy at Alta who catches the bus there. He said it’s actually easier this year as everyone is afraid to ride the bus.Quote:

Weird ass conditions out there, can't say I've dealt with sun crusts on W faces above 10k in December too often. Lots of collapsing the second you step on a northerly aspect, those are going to need some time or a serious load to calm down. Poked around W and SW aspects, had to stick to gullies where wind transport has moved enough snow to bury the sharks. Lots of walking to get to 600' shots but it feels nice to be back in the alpine soaking some suns and high-speed turns:

^absolutely weird out there, went for the beat down up MC and hit skiers left of Gobblers, never in my years of BC skiing have I heard so much widespread collapsing... Even as we skinned the ridgeline within the trees we were hearing the thunder

Skied settled pow in the sun on Cardiac ridge, didn't quite make the actual ridge line. No cracking, no collapsing.

That was a great day for 2in. Riding up after being a ways back first thing, I kept thinking, why is no one going out the high t? Got to piss pass, and there were zero tracks anywhere to be seen. Sleeper, no crowds. I think the ikon influx is real.

Yeah, Snowbird was mobbed last Wednesday, yesterday and today not so much. If it’s quiet on Tuesday we can be assured blackouts make a difference and those fuckers are infiltrating our mountains.
Skated up to the top of the rope tow today. Crazy that the second and third laps were easier than the first.
