The Texas governor argued that it was reasonable for Perry to believe his life was at stake since Foster had held his gun in the “low-ready firing position.”
Yet this claim is inconsistent with Perry’s own remarks to the police, which indicated that Foster did not aim a rifle at his killer, but merely carried it. Needless to say, seeing a person lawfully carrying a firearm cannot give one a legal right to kill them.
But pesky realities like this carry less weight than conservative media’s delusional grievances. Shortly after Perry’s conviction in April 2023, then-Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson aired a segment portraying Perry as a helpless victim of “a mob of rioters” and a “Soros-funded” district attorney. Carlson decried the jury’s verdict as a “legal atrocity” and lambasted Abbott for standing idly by while his state invalidated conservatives’ right to defend themselves. “So that is Greg Abbott’s position,” he said. “There is no right of self-defense in Texas.”
The next day, Abbott pledged to work “as swiftly as Texas law allows regarding the pardon of Sgt. Perry.”
The guy was charged, tried, convicted and sentenced by a jury of his peers in a by-the-book legal proceeding. Guy was shown on multiple instances to be actively looking to shoot and kill the exact demographic he ended up shooting and killing. Correct me if i am wrong, but ALL witnesses said that the victim never raised his weapon. And yet, THIS, THIS is the person deserving of a pardon?!?!?!? I quit reading this thread a long time ago because it just upset me too much. Then last week I was in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and I took a Bosniak (Muslim) led tour about the war with Serbs and the siege of Sarajevo. While talking about snipers cutting down civilians the guide said people from other countries paid big money to come and the Serbs would give them weapons and let them shoot at Sarajevans from the hills surrounding the town. I was kind of incredulous but searching turned up this film.

Bear with two cubs crossing 89 near Palisades. Multiple cars slowed down, hazard lights on etc. Asshole in a big pickup got impatient and hit the second cub and killed it. The sow came back into the road and pulled the dead cub off the road. No one seems to know how the guy managed to do that--there seemed to be plenty of warning and it was the third bear to cross he hit. He didn't stick around for anyone to ask him. There are too many bears for the ecosystem, and yeah, most animal babies don't survive, but that death seems particularly egregious. I guess I believe that POS human beings is redundant.
