1998-2001 can have transmission problems
Care to elaborate? The a343f transmission has been used in several different Toyota truck models, 80 series cruiser, 100 series cruiser, Lexus LX450/470. If i was looking at a truck with this transmission, I'd look for records that the fluid has been changed, and if it shifted ok, I'd be done worrying about it.
I saw this recently and it reminded me of how much I want one. My old 55s were great and this would be even better especially with the 5 speed.

That could be a 60 or 62 series, neither came with a 5 speed.
60: 2f carbed engine I6, 4 speed MT
62: 3fe fuel injected I6, 4 speed AT
You can put a 5 speed on either one with some $
My 60 series was a pig with the original straight 6 and the 4 speed
I thought the 62 was a 5 speed as well as fuel injected. I'm getting used to the faulty memory thing
Fuck yeah they were. I had a 70 and a 76. The 70 with 3 speed was a tank.
Day 4 of picking random parts off the 80 series at the junkyard. I think I'm finally done. Just been grabbing nuts and brackets recently since the junker is rust free.
Yeah and it's an easy fix if you have little arms. If not, wear a long sleeve shirt.

So this happened last month. Always wanted one.
Currently undergoing PM (heater hose, well pretty much all hoses, heater control valve, distributor o ring, birfield service, trans flush, etc…)
Current non working items- Seat front back movement, antenna up/down, rear door lock, heater won’t turn off, no enguaging 4 lo on the trans case (so no locker testing yet)
Chipping away slowly, looking forward to having it up and running.

Also has zero security system currently. Factory one removed by one of the previous owners
Dope! I have a hand full of spare OEM parts including relays and modules if you need them. Headed back to pick and pull tomorrow to get a few more tidbits so let me know if you need anything. It's a 1994 so not all parts match yours.
Gamivetti makes the plastic gears to make your seats work again. They have a video on how to install them too. Make sure you soak them in boiling water for a few minutes before install to soften them up otherwise they'll crack. The whole process isn't hard if you have basic hand tools.

For the antenna, the plastic drive cable brakes inside the motor housing. The motors usually fine. I usually replace the mast and the plastic drive cable. Again not hard to do their videos out there for it.
Another thing to look out for that doesn't really show itself is I have opened up several engines that had the cam chain guide plastic separate from the cam chain guide and was sitting up underneath the valve cover. Not doing any damage, yet, but the cam chain was riding on the metal of the guide as opposed to the plastic.
Changing out that guide requires taking off the front of the engine so it's a PITA.
Also look around your oil pump on the front left corner of the engine as there is an o-ring in there that goes bad and starts weeping oil, that's not a hard fix either.
She's a beaut, Clark!
A 40th with lockers? The grail. Nice pick up.

$41k for a 140k mile 80 series. Crazy.

Take THAT, BTC!
Cross-post from Gear Swap. Yes, it’s a 100 series…
Selling my 06 LX. Florida truck in Colorado since 2019, selling for $19K in Boulder.

Bring all your low mile FJ62s to me, please.
What's low miles for a ~40 year old rig that was intended to be driven (a lot)? I'd love one too.
Sold my '96 LX for $3400 with a head gasket on its way out around 2016 just before the prices skyrocketed. The new owner replaced the gasket, added a lift/tires and overlanding cosmetics, and sold it for $25k and 18 months later. Cool with me, I had no interest in rebuilding the engine, and honestly much prefer my current 3rd gen 4Runner. The 80 is a tank, the 3g4R is a sports car by comparison.
Was running last minute Xmas errands around Santa Cruz bolivia today with my cousin in her cruiser.
Diesel, 5 speed manual, 2013 70 series. Left hand drive.

Do want.
And the 70's not so bad either!
FKNA!
Couple more cool ones. These are both 200 series, turbo diesel, VX, one with a bunch of GOTOS. Note the i[emoji605]SLC sticker on my uncle's.
