Can't really compete w SkiLyft or evdogs, but did make some good use of tree falling in backyard that I'm going to tie into my access trail to my local trail system 1/4 away.
Started project as it was too wet to ride and didn't feel like riding windy road ride or basement trainer

After nearly complete decided it was a bit too high consequence that high off the ground for anyone other than me to ride, so ended up dropping it down to ground level for my kids/friends to ride as well. Was really worried it was going to rotate and all my work would be for nothing, but turned out pretty well. Easy and low consequence enough but gets a bit skinny and some twists still make it fun. Backyard pumptrack build still planned though need to wait for it to dry up a bit still, starting soon in the grass just before this.

I could not disagree more with the first part, but heartily agree with the second haha.
I miss digging. Wish the trails i moved next to allowed anything more than basic maintenance like drain clearing. Its a super popular state park and the rangers and hikers would freak out if berm were put in, or anything interesting was done. Oh well.
Ha!
I enjoy low consequence ones. Always need to be prepared to hop off to increase your chances of saving the derailleur. I made this one yrs ago now and probably have cleaned it a half dozen times out of 300 attempts. It's a tires width at the end. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c040adde5d.jpg
Washington. Its in a very urban area that sees a ton of hiker traffic so i can understand why it would be near impossible to get "fun" mtb trails approved. Plenty of other opportunities for me to dig, its just id have to hop in the car to get there which wastes time i dont really have right now. Way better access to sanctioned and unsanctioned digging out here than in CA.

8y/o giving a go. Needed some help up/on as entrance is a bit steep but should be good progression for her, plus my entertainment for adult friends

Fixed Concussion Corner to make CBuster great again.
Old work had lasted a decade but some of the stumps holding up the runout had pulled out and the bank had collapsed.
Pulled out the stumps and saved them. Installed posts to shore up the bank. Then backfilled with the stumps as backup. athe rebuilt the runout with rock and soil but No Berms to keep it old school and janky... just the way it always was. This is actually an "after" shot. I walked ahead to the firebreak you can just make out in the distance and then trimmed the worst stuff on the way back. It is rideable now, just a bit brushy.

This Travis tool is so amazing! Wish I had it ten years ago. Started work on a berm. It's gonna be a water trap, but I'll dig a gully on the front side to catch it. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...527f0b04e6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0a5c6c8578.jpg

Too much rain to ride, may as well make our hike productive.

That'll be a sick pump track!
LOL, heart shape. Two back/right side berms will have an opposing one connecting them. Small jump line running parallel to the far straight/upper left side.
Few months ago posted some build sketches in this thread.

Was going to do some trimming on my local yesterday, but instead joined big work party on new trail at one of my favorite riding spots 30 min away.

Going to be a fun one, though distance of gap is probably not something I'm hitting anytime soon.
Blowing out little berms with the Travis makes a huge difference. I'm finally spending a little bit of time enhancing what exists instead of new. So many corners need a tire hold. I'm only doing one slice down then a slice in front pulling that back and up. So the firm dirt that actually holds the tire is shallow. Of course I drifted up and crashed. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8859c2b0bf.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b74ab8f999.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9333f50e95.jpg
Probably close to 15 of us chipping in. Not sure how many dig days before, trail definitely nearing completion though.
Also one from my backyard pumptrack nearing completion. Ripped a bunch of laps tonight w my daughter https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...491d05737d.jpg

A cool spell rolled through over the weekend so I was back at it the last couple days.
The work I've been doing is on a string of three trails totaling maybe 4 miles. They were normally ridden top to bottom and I've been working from the bottom up so people don't see trail work up top and drop in to an impenetrable mess.
I moved on to the upper trail this weekend. Hiked through first and flagged all the spots where it was hard to follow the trail. Picked a the worst ones and got to work.

Lots of cool rock in the area. A lot of it isn't usable for features but it still makes the trail more interesting

The base of the trail is organic but it had holes ( dogs digging) and exposed roots from people walking and bikes.
Raked away organic then dug it down to mineral soil then shaped to benchcut. After bringing the trailbed back up so there's no holes and its somewhat crowded we topped it off with organic and used some fallen cedar off trailside. Keeps it looking the way it used to + the forest is so fertile there the ferns and salal will grow back trailside in a year
Brushed out local trails for 3-4 hours today. Holy shit, so much growth!!

Back to the mountains this weekend. Heat wave coming this week so I wanted to bust out some more work while I can.
Built one short re-route to move the trail where it crosses a corner of private property. Also scoped out another re-route to replace a steep climb with one that is rideable. Found some cool rock formations to snake through and around.

Local bike club recently got a bug up their ass that some bridges a friend and I built 10 yrs ago need to be replaced. And of course, that means building unnecessarily over-built bridges that will make a fun/interesting trail much less fun/interesting. A few of us came out to supervise and help, and hopefully keep them from making the trail too lame. Partial success, we got them to limit this one to 3 ft wide rather than 4 ft like they wanted.
The old bridge. 24-28" wide and banked inward where it curves, then climbing a few feet up onto a bank

Day 1 we demo'd the old bridge, augered holes and and poured concrete pilings.
Attachment 418360
Day 2 we brought in wood, mounted beams onto the pilings and attached the deck planks.

Finished product. Looks nice. Solid. Kinda boring.

Trail maintenance backpacks question:
My main trail tools are:
Milwaukee M18 hedge trimmer(awesome for brush btw)
12” folding hand saw
Rogue Travis Hoe, 48”
6 pack of beer
I’m looking to ride my ebike 5-10 miles and 2-4k of vert to the trails, with these tools on my back. Any pack recommendations?
Mega. Can you partially disassemble the trimmer so its not as long? If not then I've repurposed an old Dakine Poacher as it had lots of compartments and was overbuilt for packing stuff
