Maybe myself and Hizzoner will pilgrimage up this spring for another powder/ lamb/ red wine fest.

Yeah somebody (me) had to maintain order with the heathens, and somebody had to represent and act smart, hope my guys made an impact.
I have a very full schedule from here to the closer with 3 free ski comps a rail jam and another patrol exchange so I'm not going anywhere.
Guest room is yours if you and the Grand Poohbah or Driggs need it, I will even wash the linens.
Looks like over the weekend, hope to see ya up there.Quote:
It only happened if we get to take some turns together.
I guess this is more northwest Montana, but this thread is the closest we've got. A quick vid from our gaper scavenger hunt:

Well, it's been 2013 but fuck it I guess? Here's a few from Saturday with poppa capone at MLB. Good chute skiin but much adventurous wandering will likely leave the average overly ambitious recreational skier dry docked:eek::biggrin:. Best wishes to the FWT competitors!

Thanks to Bunion and crew for managing that God forsaken scree heap for the ordinary skier! It's no Bridger Bowl, but it's always good for a cheap thrill:wink:
ohhh the fannnn!!!
What is the word on the Tram at BS?
I don't know, but with all the recent snow and more forecasted to come, it is freaking ON the moment they get it running again. Endless pow for all! I might be stuck indoors installing baseboards and more remodeling efforts this weekend, but I might just have to sneak off to get in on the goods. Many around the nation are crying about the warmth and lack of snow. Not here, my friends. Not here.

Big Sky runs on rumor, little of it is 100% true, most contains minor kernels.
The primary electrical drive fried on Sunday.
The BS lift Maint. guys made a maximum effort and pulled the motor, (no small feat) sent it to IF for a refit and managed to get it back in on Wed.
Upon trying to run the Tram with the rebuild, something failed, not sure what. Still closed today from their website.
I know my staff was trying to get an 11:00 ride to try and maintain some sort of control on the N. Summit and the BSSP is doing the same with the terrain they manage. Otherwise they have been hiking to routes the past couple of days. (just talked to my guys and this didn't happen, oh well)
Beyond that, we are trying to leave the Big Sky Mtn Ops folks alone so they can sort it out.
It would be a shame to let all that deep pow go to waste if they can't get it fixed this season, but with a tram like that they obviously can't screw around with safety. It's cool, there's plenty more mountain to ski there. Good luck to the guys working up there!
chatted with a lift mechanic today. theyre hoping for tomorrow for the tram. working through the night. heres hoping
Yeah dude, is your back hurtin or somethin? Just go skiin with some people man, not everyone here is what you project onto them. Trust me, you'd rather be living here with a handful of douchbags than surrounded by them on all fronts somewhere else. Why do you think all us massholes and vermonters move out here?:biggrin:Quote:
... you must spend hours creating your daily sarcastic posts.
O.K. I have to admit I peeked and John C. nailed the Big Sky scene pretty squarely.
I laughed but you are still on ignore.
He nailed it but now it's gone. ? I heard so many people today repeating information from that post as fact. That's good.
How are things looking down there? I know its been warm but not as bad as last year right? Think A-Zs wil still have enough coverage next week?
Attachment 135821 Yeah they're good to go.
Any idea when they are announcing next years pass prices ?
Big Sky hasn't announced prices for the 13/14 season, but the website say's they'll be announcing that "soon" for whatever that's worth.
In the meanwhile, I'm about to pounce on a pair of passes for Moonlight. Deal's good til the end of the month.
http://www.moonlightbasin.com/the-mo...season-passes/
Do they ever do early bird specials for the BSiA combo pass?
Is there a reason big sky hasn't announced pass prices? Usually they have the buy now ski rest of season option up by now
Rumor going around is the wait is due to their (Boyne's) plans to acquire MLB.
Could happen but I wouldn't bet the ranch on it just yet.
And if you would like to prevent such an unfortunate occurance.
Buy a MLB season pass now for next season and help to keep me and the rest of my crew employed.:fmicon:
I heard that rumor quite a bit in the past two weeks.
However, I also heard the same rumor 6 years ago, 5 years ago, 4 years ago........
Maybe it's true this time ? Dunno, that's why I did not post about it on this board. But now that Bunion brought it up...
I remember back around 04-05 the big rumor was the Yellowstone Club buying Big Sky, and the only skiing open to the public would be Moonlight. Obviously that never came about.
Whatever happens, Moonlight Basin is a very fun place to ski thanks to Bunion and his crew.
Rumor has now increased to Boyne buying both Moonlight and Spanish Peaks.
I have been told by reliable sources () the Y/C intends to pick up Spanish Peaks for their operation, (Golf Course mainly) and turn the ski operation over to Boyne to operate as a part of Big Sky.
I have also heard that there is a much larger player attempting to buy out Boyne and MLB and combine them into one new operation.
I have also heard there are at least 6 other suitors for MLB that want to purchase and operate MLB as a separate entity from Big Sky.
I do know that nothing has happened to date (so all the rumors of there already being a done deal are wrong) and we will only know what is what after the season has ended.
Anyone headed out to the sweet corn fest the weekend after next?
Big Sky finally has passes for sale. $869 'til the end of April.
http://www.bigskyresort.com/Activiti...LD_Big_Sky.asp
Is the lone peak pass still being sold, or do we have to purchase both passes separately?
Yeah, at least they don't pull your pass at Bridger for passing the slowpokes on the way up the canyon. From the sounds of things, I'd have conflicts with the mountain management over at Snowbowl.
If anyone needs a MLB lift ticket for cheap hit me up with a PM. We bought some but I can't use the last one. I'm in BZN.
Last day of the 12/13 season and early a/c is required.
2-3" on top of 2-3" on top of.... well you get the idea.
Yet another great winter in the can, # 29 for me as a professional snow fluffer and arranger of the deck chairs on the Titanic.
See ya'll next fall at the Dark Side of the Moon party.
Good end to a good resort season. Thanks Bunion, I fall more in love with that place every year. Big Sky is often fun, too.
Party tomorrow at Lone Peak Cinema. Premiere of 'Barn Burner', a short movie Chris Kamman put together at 8:00pm, a Spring Skiing edit from skiing at Big Sky (read=long skis and girls in bikinis), then live music by The Mediocre Trio afterwards. There's a full bar there, too. No cover to get in. Here's the trailer:
..and some spring skiing from last season:
MLB skied great yesterday. Soft snow and few people. Crossed over into BS and waited 75 minutes in the tram line. I usually don't wait but it was the last day so I felt I had to make one last tram run.
Pond skim was so much freaking fun to watch. That was quite the party there on the hill! I couldn't believe how many people were up there! Good times. Thanks for a great season, and helping keep that place so awesome, Bunion!
How was the peak? I skied the bowl sat morning, and let me just say that I sucked. Some serious crustage out there. Lots of windblown crust over by the shedhorn lift (although the trees were great!), but had my best runs by far off of Challenger, and the shared BS/MLB side (also in the trees). I could blame my tune, but I think the truth is that I need to work on my technique, as I learned that variable snow is not exactly my forte. Especially going from dust on crust to ice to powder, etc. The whole place was probably a piece of cake for any east coasters, though, with the giant ice cube moguls I had a tougher time with. Haha.
Marx was soft and fluffy with about 6 inches of new. However I've always found the Moonlight side to be better snow especially when BS is hardpack. You can't beat that northern exposure.
