I am crossing fingers for gressoney, but when it's from south (and this is the case), there is no hope at all for valais (saas-fee and zermatt included) :tdo13:
Hey sure hope it snows. Soon, maybe...
1/25 - Did the Vallee Blanche "Vrai Vallee" route - first Midi run of the season. Some small pockets of nearly-powder, mostly in various degrees of wind affected. All four variations I saw seemed skiiable and with lots of tracks laid in and crowds starting to develop on the tourist route. Arete still not equipped, so crampons still are necessary, although it seems they are in the process of putting up the ropes so that may change in the next few days.

Jeka woke me up this morning.
Who's Jeka? He's the guy that drives the snowplow.
And it's still snowing.
snow in milan this morning but not yet in the monterosa area. They desperately need it.
Al, so often you reported it snowing you must already drown - don't ya?;)
Edg, sorry I mixed you up with Ulty on the ball part.:D
Hope it starts dumping in Valais soon: heading up to Zermatt in a week, just for a long weekend type thing but still...
Partly cloudy in Chamonix right now, snow-forecast has a big 10cm in the 3 day... :frown: :frown:
I think Chamex may well have missed the weather window to take a guided group up the Midi this week.
the big dumping will be from south (some 5 cm are already here in milan, and counting), so chances for valais, cham, etc are very, very :nonono2: . But you guys might go to monterosas (champoluc and gressoney) by sunday and prolly find what you are lookin for
I e-mailed str8line about going to Gressoney first (big dump due) and he said we're totally flexible, so we may get some sweet pow turns on Sunday!
Horizon you still staying at Hotel Birtle? Drop me a line to confirm check in times.
Sun just came the Mont Blanc... looks like climbing is the thing tomorrow...
fyi, although monte rosa is going to get some, there still isn't a whole lot going around there. i was lined up for 5 guided days that have fallen through...

Unfortunately we decided to change the period of the off-piste skiing course because at the moment we don't have snow to go off-piste.

absolutely right. Also, there's no bottom, and a big dump in two days means high ava risk.Quote:

OK, snowing pretty hard right now. Wow mountain weather changes fast. Crossing my fingers it keeps up here! God is it nice to see snow out my window again...
Damn Italy and Zermatt are supposed to get slammed! http://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/alps_dynamical.shtml I got a three days free pass in Verbier but it seems on the edge of the dump/no-dump zone... any update from over there? TeleAl?
few clouds, no snow at all so farQuote:

If anyone has the info, please feel free to post or pm me...:)
You been hanging around with Ripzalot?Quote:

When I come to think of it I also try to maximize my skijoy per vacation day spent. One goal, two constraints - sounds like a LP problem.
Okey - just came out of the closet as a total econgeek...:rolleyes2
mid-day news.... 35 cm of snow in milan, and counting (we might get 50-60 by the end of the day), not a single drop so far in verb, courm, champ, gress.... something possible later in alagna and macugnaga.
Verb, so there's snow in Milan but none over in like Alanga, so far?
HayDuke, Thomas, I, and others are thinking to make a road trip to get some of this pow.
Great shopping in Milan. Maybe you could catch an Inter game. ;)Quote:

Ah, the classic 'Genoa Low'. Italy seems to have vast tracts of mountains with no damn ski resorts in 'em. Grrr.
there are some, but I'll tell you where only if you buy Ronaldinho and Eto'o and send them to play in Inter FC at your expenses...
I may live near Chelsea but my name is not Roman.Quote:

A 1-1.5m dump will do nothing there, because there is absoloutely no base in the area. After that 1m dump, you would need 2 more to make it skiable.
In short, unless miracles happen,MoRo is fucked for this season.
I have gotten very depressed emails from there...
Poor bastards.
:(
Thanks Meathelmet!
verbier61, from your chart it looks like it would be snowing in Cervinia and the Aosta Valley?
That 15cm light green dot in the middle of the darker green, close to swiss border,at 7.5E - 46N is where gressoney is.Quote:

Thanks for the advice Meathelmet. Alanga seemed kind of high elevation... we heard it was like a little La Grave in Italy. It seems like it might be getting dumped on over there, up high (2000m) is there still no base?
Cervinia is kind of flat and boring IMO, for off piste that is... snow doesn't help make the terrain more interesting and I heard if you waunder of piste they sometimes send out the police to arrest you (?). I had a season pass including there last year, from Zermatt, but we hardly ever went.
news from ALL aosta valley says NO relevant snow there.. no more than few cm :frown: the big dump is now in liguria (some small neglected spots like pratonevoso and cuneo alps might be like  H E A V E N by sunday.... ) lombardy (45 cm in milan, linate airport closed) and all the spots in valtellina (Bormio, livigno etc) ticino (bosco gurin, sanbernardino....), probably graubunden, and many scattered selected spots in dolomitiQuote:

trust me, i'll be the first to jump on the alagna wagon, but it just isn't there yet this year :(
Rooman is close enough...Quote:
